Microblading Eyebrow Color Correction: What it is & Why I Did it
Have you ever had microblading? I love my microbladed eyebrows! In fact, I can’t imagine going back to life without them! Today, I’m sharing with you what microblading is, and why, if you’ve had microblading in the past, eyebrow color correction might need to be your next step! Whether you’re a seasoned microblading veteran or a curious newbie, I think you’ll love learning how this technique can elevate your brow game!
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing technique used to enhance eyebrows, giving them fullness and more definition. It’s an ideal procedure for women for with sparse or uneven eyebrows due to things like over-plucking, medical conditions, or the natural thinness that can come with aging.
I’ve loved that it eliminates the time I used to spend filling in my brows every morning! I know my brows are well-shaped, gap-free, symmetrical, and appropriate for my face size and shape. Done well, microblading provides a subtle and realistic look that mimics the appearance of real hair. Depending on things like skin type and aftercare, the effects can last anywhere from 6 months to 18 months. But with proper yearly touchups, it can last longer.
What is Eyebrow Color Correction?
Basically, eyebrow color correction is a specialized procedure designed to adjust the pigment of previously microbladed brows. It can address issues such as uneven coloration that can happen over time, fading, or incorrect shade selection.
I’d originally had my brows microbladed in May 2022. (You can read the post where I break it down HERE.) I loved the results, but over time I felt like the initial brow color my microblading artist used was probably somewhat darker than I would have liked, without the warmer tones that my reddish hair and warm-undertoned skin required. (Choosing the right brow color is crucial for achieving a natural-looking result.)
I’d also noticed that my brows had started to fade unevenly. This is not uncommon! Factors such as skin type, sun exposure, and poor aftercare practices can result in uneven pigment distribution, which can become more noticeable over time. I mostly stay out of the sun, but for me, my uneven fading was probably largely due to my love for retinol and my carelessness in my nightly application!😬
Microblading color correction doesn’ t remove the old microblading tatoo. It simply follows the lines of the original microblading, but covers the old tattoo using a corrector pigment.
My Eyebrow Color Correction
A few months ago, I took a professional makeup lesson with renowned Dallas makeup artist Bebe Tran. (Read about it HERE, including the makeup I used, and her makeup application tips and product recommendations.) During our lesson, I asked her if she thought my brows were too dark for my skin tone. I also told her of my concern for how they were fading unevenly. Since it had been two years since my original procedure, she suggested that it might be time to think about doing an eyebrow color correction.
A few weeks later, I decided to schedule a time for her to do the procedure.
Eyebrow Color Correction Step-by-Step
Remember! Any beauty procedure, whether it’s as simple as a HydraFacial or as complex as microblading, should start with a thorough consultation. If you don’t feel completely comfortable with the plan of action or the provider, postpone or find another provider.
1. Numbing and Consultation
As I numbed, Bebe and I discussed my desired outcome and addressed my concerns (mostly minimizing pain during the procedure!), and together we determined the best pigments for my color correction. Since we were looking to warm up my color, she added some yellow and rust to my brows. She also decided to add additional strokes in the areas where I had fading, blending two shades to create a seamless transition. (Remember, a good microblading artist will customize your brows so they’re perfect for you!)
2. Treatment
Working on one brow at a time, Bebe applied the pigment, allowing it to soak into the skin for a period of time before she removed it.
3. Aftercare
While my brows were soaking, Bebe reminded me of the importance of proper aftercare. As with any beauty procedure, good aftercare is essential to maximize the longevity and effectiveness of your treatment!
- For the first five days, cleanse the brows with a mild cleanser. Keep it clean from oil, debris, etc.
- Once the brows begin exfoliating, they should dry heal.
- Cover with a little Aquaphor before washing your hair or potentially getting the brows wet.

Hi Suzy,
I totally agree – microblading is a no brainer for helping streamline your makeup routine. I had mine originally done six years ago when I hit 50 and get them touched up every 12-14 months as they fade. Once you brush your brows into place, you’re all done. I’ve decided it’s some of the best money I’ve ever invested in what my husband has dubbed the “Carrie maintenance fund” in our annual budget.
Happy Tuesday!
Carrie
Carrie,
I so agree! Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I can’t imagine going back to non-microbladed brows!
Grateful for your input, and I’m so glad you’re here! Thank you for following me and for sharing!
