Kate Middleton’s Fall Booties Have Our Attention. Here’s Why.

Empty Nest Blessed by Suzy Mighell

Leave it to Kate Middleton to make a pair of practical fall boots look completely chic! 😂

Kate Middleton in brown chelsea booties

I spotted her recently in the cutest brown suede Chelsea boots paired with a classic trench and simple fall layers, and the whole look immediately caught my eye. The boots were polished and stylish, but most importantly, they actually looked comfortable enough to walk in!

That got me thinking about the shoes I really want in my closet these days. I still want them to feel current and pulled together, but if they’re not comfortable enough for real life, I know I’m probably not going to reach for them very often.

So, inspired by Kate, my assistant Beth and I went looking for walkable fall booties at a variety of price points, along with a few other fall shoe styles worth a look. We found some really good ones!

The Kate-Inspired Brown Suede Chelsea Boot

Let’s start with the pair that inspired this whole post!

Brown suede is everywhere this fall, and a Chelsea boot is one of those classic styles you can pull out year after year. Kate’s exact Massimo Dutti pair has a flat sole, elastic side panels, and that gorgeous warm brown suede that feels just right for fall.

But you definitely don’t have to spend $300 to get the look. We found several similar options at different price points, so you can get that same polished, practical feel for less.

The Everyday Leather Ankle Boot

If you’re only adding one pair of booties to your closet this fall, a simple leather ankle boot might be the most versatile choice.

Look for a clean shape with an almond or slightly pointed toe and either a flat sole or low block heel. It’s the kind of boot that works with so much of your fall wardrobe without feeling overly trendy.

The Lug Sole Bootie

This one is for my fellow travelers and anyone who knows they’re going to be doing some serious walking!

A lug sole gives you a little more traction and support, and plenty of versions now don’t feel overly clunky. You’ll also find some waterproof options in this category, which can be especially handy for fall travel and unpredictable weather.

The Dressier Low Heel Bootie

Sometimes you want something a little prettier than your everyday flat boot, but that doesn’t mean you need a sky-high heel! (Honestly, I think I may be done with those for life! Anyone else?!)

A low block heel or kitten heel gives you a more polished look while still being much easier to walk in. You’ll also see some subtle Western-inspired details in this category, like pointed toes and stacked heels, if you want to try that look without going full cowboy. 🤠

Beyond the Bootie

Of course, booties aren’t the only shoes getting attention this fall. Loafers, Mary Janes, ballet flats, slingbacks, and sneakers are all still going strong, and there are some really cute options out there.

If you’re ready for something different, we rounded up a few favorites to mix into your fall wardrobe.

One of my favorite things about fashion at this stage of life is knowing what works for me and having the confidence to wear what I love.

I don’t need to wear every trend, and I definitely don’t need to suffer through uncomfortable shoes just because they’re cute! Nope! I want shoes that feel current, pulled together, and practical for real life.

And apparently, Kate Middleton agrees. 😉

Now I want to know: Are you a bootie girl, or are you reaching for loafers, Mary Janes, flats, or sneakers this fall? Leave me a comment and let me know, okay?
