My Favorite Source for Must-Have Coats

When it comes to cold weather, you know this girl is not a fan! Things like layering basics, cozy cashmere, and coats are a big, big deal to me! Lands’ End is my favorite source for all of those. In fact, in a recent post about a Mother/Daughter trip, I raved about how Lands’ End’s Silk Interlock Long Underwear tops and pants saved me when a Nor’easter blew into New York City while I was there.🥶

Lands’ End started in 1963, when Gary Comer began selling sailboat equipment to sailors. Later, he opened a storefront in Chicago and ran a mail-order business out of his basement. When the first catalog cover misplaced the apostrophe in “Land’s End,” Gary couldn’t afford to reprint so “Lands’ End” became the name of Gary’s company from then on — punctuation mistake and all! (I love that story! 🤣)

By the 1980s, the focus of the business had shifted to apparel and the company moved its headquarters to Dodgeville, Wisconsin, where they’re still located. Over the years, Lands’ End become known for high quality and good value. With a wide range of sizes, thoughtful designs, and a focus on making feature-packed coats and clothes for real life, the brand became the go-to spot for many, many people. I’m one of those!

Must-Have Coats

First things first! If we’re going to talk about coats, we have to talk about warmth! Lands’ End makes it easy to shop because they rate their coats on a warm-warmer-warmest scale. To determine which level is right for you, consider the climate, how long you’ll be outdoors, and what you’ll be doing.

A coat with a “warm” rating would include outerwear like a fleece jacket (I’m wearing one in red below.) or insulated vests. They’re perfect for fall walks with the dog or as an extra layer on colder days.

A coat with a “warmer” rating is ideal for areas with mild winters and climates with little or no snow. The Ultralight Packable Down Jacket (like the one I’m wearing in pink below) is great for chilly days.

A coat with the “warmest” rating is what you need if you spend your winters someplace where the temperatures drop below freezing on a regular basis. If that’s the case, then a coat like the Insulated 3-in-1 Primaloft Parka (like mine in green below) is the best choice for you.

As you browse jackets on the Lands’ End website, you’ll find the jacket’s temperature rating at the top of the “Product Details” tab. To read Lands’ End’s full guide to jacket temperature ratings, click HERE.

1. Must-Have Coats: The Insulated Wool Coat

The classic wool coat is a must-have coat because of its versatility. Lands’ End’s soft mid-thigh wool-poly blend coat can go anywhere from the office to a winter wedding! Whether you wear it with dresses, skirts, or pants, it elevates any outfit.

Lands’ End’s wool coat is insulated with their signature PrimaLoft® insulation (giving it a “warmer” rating). It has a face-framing stand-up collar and a quilted interior. I love the way the hidden zipper in the front gives it a clean, tailored look! It comes in Regular and Plus sizes and is available in five colors. (The red one would be so pretty for the holidays!)🎄

2. Must-Have Coats: The Ultralight Packable Down Jacket

Women’s Ultralight Packable Down Jacket (40% off with code PARKA through 11/30.)

You won’t believe how light, but warm this down jacket is! With 800 fill power down (sourced through an ethical supply chain), it gets a “warmer” rating on the Lands’ End temperature scale. It has a 100% nylon, water-resistant shell and it’s machine washable. When you’re done wearing it, it handily packs away in its own pocket until the next time you need it! (Making it easy to pack for your next empty nester winter getaway!)

The practical features of this jacket are great, of course, but what I’m really all about is the figure-flattering quilt lines, the eight fun color options, and the cute contrasting interior colors.😄 It’s available in Regular and Plus sizes.

3. Must-Have Coats: The Squall Hooded Waterproof Raincoat

Lands’ End’s Squall Hooded Waterproof Raincoat will be your BFF when the weather turns wet! Whether it’s a gullywasher (Does anyone say that anymore?😂) or just a little drizzle, this is the wind-and-waterproof raincoat you need to keep you warm and dry.

The antistatic, anti-pill fleece lining and no-leak sealed seams earn it a “warmer” rating on Lands’ End’s temperature rating scale, and it has adjustable cuffs to keep out the wind. Maybe the best thing of all? It’s machine washable for easy care. Check out the four color options in Regular and Plus sizes.

4. Must-Have Coats: The Full Zip Fleece Jacket

Women’s Fleece Full Zip Jacket (40% off with code PARKA through 11/30.)

Let’s be honest. We all love cozy fleece! But in winter’s dry air, sometimes the static it creates can make wearing fleece a hair-raising experience! 🤭 Not this Lands’ End fleece jacket, though! For starters, the full zip front means there’s no pulling it over your head. Second, Lands’ End’s fleece has an anti-static finish built right into it.

This jacket is perfect for outdoor adventures like the creek walking one I just had! Regular sizes are available in 7 colors and Plus sizes are available in 5 colors.

5. Must-Have Coats: The Insulated 3-in-1 Primaloft Parka

Meet the Insulated 3 in 1 Primaloft Parka! It’s amazing. This unique coat uses two layers to give you three coats in one! You can wear the outer raincoat shell by itself, the removable Primaloft insulated puffer by itself, or you can put them together for maximum protection!

The Raincoat Layer

The rain parka shell of the Insulated 3 in 1 Primaloft Parka is made of waterproof fabric with an attached hood for additional protection. The front has a two-way zip and concealed snaps, so nothing is getting past it! My favorite thing about this rain parka? The pockets are lined in cozy fleece!

The Liner Layer

With water-resistant fabric, PrimaLoft insulation, and fleece collar and pocket lining, the liner layer of the Insulated 3 in 1 Primaloft Parka makes a great coat all on its own!

Don’t even try to do the math, my friends, because in the case of the Insulated 3 in 1 Primaloft Parka, 1+1=3! 😂 Also, it probably goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway: One coat that you can wear three ways is an incredible value. 🙌 That’s a must-have coat if I’ve ever seen one! (Oh, and BTW, it’s machine washable for easy and affordable care.)

The Women’s Insulated 3 in 1 Primaloft Parka comes in four pretty color combinations in both Regular and Plus sizes.

Ready to round out your coat wardrobe? I hope so! No matter what type of coat you need, Lands’ End is the brand you can count on for quality, value, and features galore! Remember, from now through November 30, you can take 40% off with code PARKA

  1. Not only do I love their coats, but as a 5’8″ girl, I’m always so glad to see Tall sizes! Thank you, Lands’ End! (And now I understand the apostrophe . . .)

    1. Shannon,

I knew you’d like that apostrophe story! Isn’t it great that Lands’ End offers such a wide variety of sizes? So glad you discovered that they carry talls!
