Spring has sprung (well, almost!), and today, we’re sharing our comprehensive guide to the 2024 Spring & Summer Style trends with you! This post is a labor of love for me and for my assistant Beth (not to mention my hunky photographer, Bob!) because it takes a lot of time and research to put together! But you tell me it’s one of your favorites every year, so it’s important to us to bring our very best for you!

Just like every year, accessories and shoes are also an important part of spring and summer fashion trends. In 2024, silver jewelry is making a comeback, bows are everywhere, and giant rosettes are everywhere! (Along with tote-style handbags in all sizes!) When it comes to shoes, ballet flats or Mary Janes are a must-have, and we’re seeing lots of shoes with chic cap toes! Denim shoes are trending, along with kitten heels! We’ll be sharing posts on the 2024 Spring & Summer Accessories and 2024 Spring & Summer Shoe Styles you need to know in the next few days, so stay tuned!

Keep reading to find out this year’s must-haves! It may take you a couple of readings to take it all in! That’s to be expected.😄 Let’s jump right in, okay? 🌷🌻🌸

Also, you should know that the day I published this, Talbots launched a 25% off sitewide sale 😲 on so many of the things I included in this post! Remember to click through on any pink text link or image you see to head right to the item and check out sizing, pricing, and more!

2024 Spring & Summer Color Trends

When you’re trying to update your wardrobe, one of the easiest and least expensive ways to do that is to work in the hot hues of the season! In fact, it’s so important that we started out our 2024 Spring & Summer Style Guide with an entire post on the trending colors for spring & summer 2024. If you haven’t read that post, I highly recommend you take a few minutes to check it out before diving into this one! You can read it HERE.

Pink Orange Checkerboard Sarah Sweater (USE code SUZY15 for 15% off.) | White Slim Flared Jeans (similar) | White Booties (similar HERE) | Lilac Pink Crossbody | Lilac Pink Leather Belt

Also, note that we’re seeing certain colors paired together a lot this spring, either in stripes (themselves a big trend) or in checks. Look for orange/pink, along with blue/green.

2023 Spring & Summer Style Trends

In general, the national return to offices brought about the resurgence of preppy style, with elevated basics like blazers and button downs. Also, Barbiecore brought femininity back to the forefront, so look for things like peplums and bows.

Elevated Basics

Think classic closet must-have, but with a twist that elevates their style quotient.

Spring Glen Plaid Blazer | Spring Glen Slim Leg Pants | Pleated Sleeve Crewneck Tee | Amazon Sandals

Suits are back, and if you are looking for a style that can mix and match with other items in your closet, they can be a good value! Another type of suit we’re seeing a lot of is denim suiting. Talbots has a best-selling denim blazer that mixes and matches back to a midi skirt, high waist wide-leg pants, slim-leg pants, or a refined A-line dress.

WHBM is always a good place to shop for pulled-together looks, and I love their denim suiting this season! Pair THIS double-breasted Studio Blazer with these high-waist skinny flare jeans.

Ribbed Square Neck Sweater (Fitted) | | Refined Denim Modern Blazer (Long sleeve—I have the sleeves pushed up.) | Refined Denim Tapered Ankle Pants

Not feeling the denim options I gave you above? Look for a bright, springy option in a color you love. Check out this pink twill blazer and these pink part-linen pants for a happy suiting option. Pair them with a lace overlay shell for dressy and a white fitted tee and sneakers for casual. (YES! Really! 😄)

Don’t need a suit? Grab a denim blazer and pair it with this season’s trending whites or neutrals for a strong style statement.

Suzy’s Pro Tip: Just need a good classic blazer? Snag Amazon’s best-selling blazer (24 color options!) and pair it with anything!

High Waist Pants

Sailor Jeans (Hard to tell in the photo, but these are straight leg.) | Patch Pocket Jeans

By now, it probably goes without saying that wide-leg pants have come into their own. Balance out the billowy silhouette by making sure your pants are high-waisted.

Trench Coats

Trench Coat with Orange Trim

The classic trench is having a moment! It’s not only a preppy staple but also an example of an elevated basic with a twist! Beth and I love the trenches we see in fun colors and even cool color combinations! Also, a great trend—the cropped trench! (Adorable!)

Preppy

Everything preppy is back this year!

(R) Cable Knit Johnny Collar Sweater (long sleeve & in 4 vibrant colors) | Blue Johnny Collar 3/4-Sleeve Sweater

Everything preppy is having a moment! From fun striped button-downs to bow neck blouses, preppy goodness is big for spring!

Johnny Collar Sweaters

The Johnny Collar sweater might just be the perfect piece for spring transition! Grab one in versatile white cotton, in cashmere if it’s still chilly where you are, or in a fun spring color in either long sleeve or ¾ sleeve!

Suzy’s Pro Tip: For bonus points, pick one up in this spring’s trending stripes!

Button-Downs

This entire outfit came home with me!

Spring Fling Stripe Cotton Button Front Shirt | Whimsical Floral V-Neck Cardigan | New England Chinos in Indigo Wash (I’m wearing petite because I wanted these ankle length.)

The button-down is a prepster basic, for sure! It’s a spring must-have! If you’re looking for a solid, I recommend this Long Sleeve Seamed Detail Poplin Shirt from WHBM. The seaming adds a feminine feel to this classic. Another good choice is Chico’s 3/4 sleeve button-down done in no-iron stretch poplin! It’s perfect for travel and comes in 8 colors! I also love the classic No-Iron Stretch 3/4 Sleeve Tunic that Chico’s has this year. It’s a longer length that would be great over slim-fit pants, skinny jeans (Yes, you can still wear them with the right top!), or leggings.

The newest look in button-downs this year? The striped button-down! Wear it tucked in, untucked, or open over a tee, tank, or camisole.

Tie Neck Blouses

Also called Tie Neck Blouses, you can look for these pretty, preppy shirts with a touch of femininity to be everywhere this spring! I especially love THIS chic floral one paired with the contrasting stripe tie! Also, look for bow neck dresses!

Suzy’s Pro Tip: Buy one in a color that is flattering to your skin tone, and pair it (top button undone, tie open, and hanging straight down) with straight leg jeans. Then button it up and tie a big bow when you’re wearing a suit or dressy trousers.

Feminine

Feminine fashion is trending, with Chanel-esque ladylike cardigans and jackets leading the way.

Ladylike Cardigans & Jackets

On LEFT: Amherst Tweed Bomber Jacket | High Waist Straight Leg Southampton Pants (I own these in 3 colors!) | Edison Nappa Slingback Flats

On RIGHT: Collared Zip Cardigan | Raw Edge Hem Straight Leg Jeans | Amazon Sandals

You can splurge or save on these ladylike cardis and jackets this year! Either way, they’re a must-have Make no mistake…this is the look you’re going to be seeing all over the church on Easter Sunday!

Peplums

Mixed Cable Knit Moto Jacket (Also in white HERE.) | Southampton Pants (High waist, straight leg classic stretch trousers. See all colors HERE.) | Amazon Sandals

Feminine peplum tops, sweaters, and cardigans are everywhere for spring & summer! They’re figure-flattering and give you an hourglass shape, even if you don’t have one! I’ve pulled them in a variety of styles to give you ideas!

Full Skirts

Full skirts are trending! Wear them with a fitted top (like THIS one) and a ladylike cardigan or jacket on top for a dressy look, or pair them with a fitted tee and sneakers for casual, everyday fun! I even found a darling full skirt that is convertible! Either wear it as a full skirt, pull it up, and tie the shoulder straps, or tuck them in and wear it as a strapless dress!

“Extra” Style

Eyelet ¾-Sleeve Button Front Top | White Trouser Jeans

Femininity rules for spring, including eyelet, lace overlays, and anything floral! Newer on the scene this year, tulle, and 3-D florals. “Sheer-ish” is also a trend we’re seeing for spring! Think lace overlays, sheer skirts with lining, etc.

Lace Overlay Fit & Flare Dress (Also comes in orange.)

Florals

We see florals every spring, but not like this! I bought this happy floral cardigan that will pair perfectly with denim, and I’m eyeing this cardigan with embroidered flowers at Nordstrom. There are so many beautiful floral options this year in dresses, skirts, shorts, tops, and even swimsuits!

Tulle

Channel your inner ballerina (you know she’s in there somewhere!) and snag yourself a cute tulle skirt this year! You can dress it up with kitten heel pumps or down with white sneakers. It’s a fun, flirty look that will garner the compliments!

3-D Florals

Look for 3D elements, especially flowers that protrude from the actual garment. Looking for a MOB or MOG dress? This lilac 3D floral dress from Eliza J. is a stunner!

Thank you! I bought the floral cardigan, and I just wish I had the right place to wear the navy dress. (Although I’d buy it in the orange!)

  2. Hi Suzy,

I seem to recall you mentioning that your Avara discount rolls over again every so often. Please let me know if I’m on the right track with that. Menopause brain has me waking up in a whole new world some days!

Thanks for all of the wonderful fashion suggestions for spring – so many great choices to freshen up my closet once I dig in for my quarterly purge.

You are exactly right! No menopause brain for you! Good job. It’s SUZY15 for 15% off (Click through on THIS link to use it: https://shopavara.com?aff=180), and it rolls over every 90 days. It last rolled over in mid-January. (But my friends at Avara are so precious, they will usually do it early for me if I just ask!)

If you’re having trouble, email me at [email protected], and I’ll see what I can do, Carrie! Thank you so much for shopping with my links! It means so much to me!

  3. Oh my goodness! There is so much in this post I had to come back to it 3 times. Thank you for showing us all this. Love the floral sweater from Nordstrom. Not to mention the one from Talbots.
My style is really casual. Most of these are a little dressy for me but I’m keeping them in mind in case I have anything to attend this spring and summer.

You look so happy in all the pictures.

    1. Juliet,

I know there’s a lot in the post! Sorry about that! It really is designed to be a reference that you can return to again and again and I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I’m really casual too, but I do like to look pulled together, so I get it, sweet girl!

Thank you so much for your sweet comment and for being here! It means a lot to me.
