Spring has sprung, and today I’m sharing my comprehensive guide to the 2023 Spring & Summer Style trends with you! This post is a labor of love for me (and my hunky photographer, Bob!) every year, because it takes a lot of time and research to put together! But you tell me it’s one of your favorites every year, so it’s important to me to bring my very best for you!

Accessories are also an important part of spring fashion trends this year. In 2023, colorful, statement jewelry, statement sunglasses, and pop-of-color handbags are all expected to be popular. Colored shoes are a must-have! I’ll be sharing posts on the 2023 Spring & Summer Accessories and 2023 Spring & Summer Shoe Styles you need to know in the next few days, so stay tuned!

2023 Spring & Summer Hot Colors

Pastels are always popular for spring, but this year, we’re seeing a shift towards bolder, brighter, saturated hues. The rule this year? Pick your favorite saturated, bright color, and go for it!

Pink

Yellow

Look for yellow in statement sunnies, fun sandals, sweet tees, and more!
Suzy’s Pro Tip: Treat pale yellow like a neutral. For a brighter shade of yellow 💛, pair it with trending black and white polka dots to make it pop.

Blue

From cobalt to pastel blue, with a pretty chambray blue in between, you’ll see a lot of blue out there this year! I love the blue sandals that are showing up! Keep an eye out for light-wash denim this spring as well!

Green

Orange

If you’re an orange lover, like I am, you’re in luck! You’ll find flattering orange swimsuits, tops, tunics, pants, and blazers. If not, consider adding a pop of orange to your look with a chic handbag or some jewelry.

2023 Spring & Summer Style Trends

As for silhouettes, oversized and relaxed fits are going to remain popular as we continue to prioritize comfort and versatility in our clothing. Look for flowy dresses (often with tiered skirts), wide-leg pants, and oversized blazers, and more!

Flowy Dresses

Smocked Top Tiered Skirt Dress | Nude Block Heel Sandals (A classic sandal from Amazon!)

Look for a continued emphasis on feminine, flowy dresses (often with tiered skirts or ruffled hems), along with loose-fitting casual dresses (some with side slits, middle front slits, or off-center front slits).

Elevated Basics

Think classic closet must-have, but with a twist that elevates their style quotient. Look for beautifully styled trench coats, shirtdresses, white poplin button-downs, loafers, Converse Chuck Taylor High Tops, and espadrilles.

Feminine Sleeve Detailing

Even on t-shirts, you’ll see lots of puff sleeves, eyelet sleeves, tiered sleeves, and even spring trench coats. My current fave is this puff sleeve Amazon top! It’s business in the front and a (bow) party in the back. Click HERE to see what I’m talking about!

3D Elements

3D Embroidered Poplin Stripe Shirt (Also comes in black.) | White Flare Jeans | Red Pumps

Look for 3D elements, like flowers or designs that protrude from the actual garment or handbag. Look for 3D designs on shirts like the one I’m wearing above, handbags, and more.

Wide Leg Pants

Wide leg pants are here to stay for a while, and we should be so glad. The biggest reason: those wide legs make your waist look smaller! 🙌 Don’t buy any more skinnies right now! Instead, opt for wide legs or flare legs (or, at the very least, Girlfriend style or straight legs).

Polka Dots

Polka dots are always big in the spring, but this year, they’re everywhere! Look for flowy polka dot tops, button-downs, and cardigans, as well as darling pants, joggers, skirts, and polka dot dresses.

Cargo Pants & Jackets

Look for large pockets on cargo style shorts and pants. Also, note that the freshest silhouette in cargo pants is jogger style. (See my look below! 👇) Cargo jackets (aka “utility jackets”) are huge this year as a substitute for jeans jackets.

Slits

Don’t panic! 😳🤣 You don’t have to wear a high slit, and it doesn’t have to be at the front! The most modest way to wear this trend is with a side slit that only goes as high up as you are comfortable with it going. 😄 You’ll find slits in dresses, skirts, jeans, and slacks.

Oversized Blazers

 The oversized blazer trend was big this fall, and it continues this spring, with brighter or lighter shades represented.

Along with the 3D-embellished sleeves that I shared above, look for lots of simple tops like tees, henleys, and pullovers embellished with eyelet sleeves, puff sleeves, and more. (And check out THIS gorgeous coat with embellished sleeves!)

2023 Spring & Summer Style Must-Haves

White Platform Sneakers

If you’re an empty nester, chances are you really love your sneakers! I live in mine, and even wear them with dresses! The two hottest shoe trends of the year are espadrilles and WHITE wide-soled (platform) sneakers! (THIS pair combines both trends in one shoe!🙌)

White Shirt

Look for white button-downs, pullovers, and knits, all with a twist! (I especially love the NO-iron styles at Chico’s this season!)

Something Pink

This year you need something pink. 🌸 And this isn’t just your pink-loving friend telling you this. 🌷 Really. 💗 Anything. 💟 Or lots of anythings. 🎀 In any shade of pink. (But the brighter, the better)!

Colored Shoes

Set off your look with colored shoes this year! Whether you prefer Birkenstocks, slides, loafers, wedges, espadrilles, sneakers, or flip-flops, buy a COLOR!

2023 Spring & Summer Styles to Skip

• Any color you don’t feel pretty wearing.
• Leggings – I know you have a bunch of them, but yoga pants are a fresher look. (Check out THESE print yoga pants!) Want to start with a safe, black pair? Opt for the flattering high-waist V-WAIST style.
• Cutouts – I’m not recommending them for women our age. That said, if you like this look and find a style that won’t embarrass your kids if you wear it 🤣, then go for it! 🙌
