9 Wearable Fall Trends in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Hey, sweet friends! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is here, and it’s time to talk fall fashion🍁! Every year, this sale gives us a sneak peek at the upcoming trends, and this season is no exception. Beth and I have scoured the sale to bring you the top 9 wearable fall fashion trends for women over 50. (No impractical runway looks HERE! 🤣) Nope! These are the pieces we think you’ll want to consider when it comes time to update your wardrobe for fall. Lucky for you, they’re at great price points in the Nordstrom Sale!

1. Wide-Leg Pants

Wide-leg pants are here to stay for a while! They’re all over the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and they’re a wearable, easy style that is perfect for your everyday wardrobe. Whether you opt for a high-waisted style (my fave!) or a more relaxed fit, wide-leg pants offer both comfort and a stylish silhouette. Pair them with a tucked-in blouse or a fitted sweater to balance your look.

2. Collared Sweaters

The collared sweater is this fall’s perfect blend of preppy and cozy! We saw the Johnny Collar sweater appear (Now more commonly referred to as the “collared sweater.”) last fall, stick around for spring, and never really go away. We absolutely love how this classic style is getting a cozy twist, making it one of our favorite trends from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! Pair these collared cuties with your favorite jeans or a full skirt, and you’ve got an effortlessly chic outfit that’s perfect for any fall day. For a fun and fresh vibe, consider a striped sweater. (Stripes are definitely having a moment!)

3. Sneakers

One trend that’s sprinting into fall and not slowing down is the sneaker. Yes, you heard it right—sneakers with everything! From dresses to jeans, this trend is all about combining comfort with style. There are two sneaker styles you need in your wardrobe! The first is a neutral fashion sneaker. Look for rich fabrics like suede to add the coolness factor to any outfit. This is the sneaker you want to wear with skirts or dresses. The second is the active sneaker. (Think of the sneaker you’d wear for workouts or a long walk.) These sneakers pair well with jeans, pants, and even (wait for it…) suits!

4. Silver Accessories

Let’s shine a spotlight on one of this fall’s most dazzling trends: metallic silver accessories! From flats to necklaces to purses, silver is the metal of the moment. We spotted some fabulous silver pieces in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that will elevate any outfit. Whether you’re dressing up for a night out or adding a pop of silver to your casual everyday ensemble, silver accessories are a way to level up your look this fall.

5. Classic Coats

As I shared in my How to Shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale post earlier this week, the trench coat is having a fashion moment! But that’s not the only coat that we’re seeing this fall! Think short button-up jackets, shearling trimmed jackets, long structured coats, and lots of double-breasted coats.

6. Flats

One of the most wearable fall trends we spotted in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale was the flat shoe. Flats are so chic for fall, and they look great paired with just about anything. Look for ballet flats, Mary Jane style flats, pretty mules, slingback flats, and more. For the newest look, seek out metallic flats (think of them as a neutral), flats with cutouts, or flats with textural detailing.

7. Sets & Suits

Two-piece sets (top here and bottom here) and suits (jacket here and pants here) are everywhere for fall. They’re a great value because they can be mixed and matched with pieces you already own. From comfy activewear sets (top here and bottom here) to relaxed but tailored suit (jacket here and pants here); you’ll see these twofers everywhere! We love this wearable fall fashion trend for those days when you need a pulled-together get-dressed-and-go look.

8. Neutral Handbags

This fall, it’s time to stray from that basic black bag, and embrace one of the new neutrals! Neutral handbags go with anything in your closet. The most on-trend styles we spotted in the sale were the tote style (all sizes), and the trusty and beloved crossbody.
