SO in the KNOW | What I’m Learning & Loving in Febuary

I’m freezing! Are you? It’s been a cold few weeks in Dallas, and my empty nester heart is yearning for spring! Do you feel that way, too? As my friend Stephanie said, “January has been a long year!”
If you’re an empty nester, one thing you know for sure is that this is not a season to get stuck! Nope! It’s a season to stay curious, keep learning, and keep growing into who God is shaping us to be next. We don’t want to be those empty nesters who have to ask our kids about the latest tech updates or viral products; we have the resources at our fingertips, so we can find these things out for ourselves!
That’s why every month I share what I’m learning and loving in my empty nest. My hope is always to encourage, inspire, and bless you as we walk through this season together. I’m so excited to share this month’s discoveries!
What I’m Learning
The empty nest has a way of sharpening what we notice. Lately, I’ve been paying attention to the things that make this season feel fuller, steadier, and more hopeful. Here are a few of the things I’ve been learning this month that inspired me, encouraged me, and made me stop and think.

Solo Agers are Doing Just Fine
AARP recently surveyed more than 500 adults ages 50–95 who are navigating life solo, and the results are so encouraging! Twenty-one percent of adults 50+ (that’s 24 million people!) are living alone, and those numbers are growing.
Over a third said the very best part of living alone is the freedom and autonomy it brings, while about one in five admitted that loneliness can be the most challenging hurdle. The study shines a light on the importance of staying connected to a strong circle of family, friends, neighbors, and caregivers, and shares smart financial, legal, and social tips to help them maintain independence and feel supported along the way.
Are You a Caregiver?
If so, are you aware that AARP has resources, discounts, and tips to help you do everything from making a long-term care plan to managing health and finances, and more? AARP members can access it HERE.
Empty Nester Travel
According to Professional Travel Advisor Shannon Leyerle, of boutique travel agency Vacations by Shannon, cruising is having a major moment, and empty nesters are right at the heart of it. With record numbers sailing and cruise lines investing in dreamy private islands, bucket list expeditions, and quieter off-season itineraries, cruises feel more elevated, flexible, and experience-driven than ever. From Antarctica adventures to winter Mediterranean sailings and shorter European trips tied to once-in-a-lifetime events, it’s an easy, exciting way for empty nesters to see the world without the stress of planning every detail. Bob and I are cruising this April, and we can’t wait!

What I’m Loving
These are the things I’ve been reaching for, using, and genuinely enjoying this month—practical finds, thoughtful favorites, and little things that simply made everyday life better. If it’s here, it’s because it earned its spot!

1. Gingham Ruffle Blouse
This gingham blouse is one of those easy pieces that feel polished yet comfortable from the moment you put it on. I love the ruffle detail and flattering neckline—it works just as well for casual days as it does for work or lunch with friends. It’s a great example of affordable style that doesn’t feel fussy. I bought it in 5 colors (haha) and have been layering it under sweaters and even sweatshirts! (It elevates them beautifully.) Oh, and if gingham’s not your thing, it also comes in stripes! Click HERE to see the color options.
2. New Favorite Mascara
I felt like I was having to scrub too much to get my mascara off, so I’ve been on the hunt for a new one. This mascara from Pixi Beauty has been such a good find. The oversized brush makes it easy to build volume quickly, and it gives my lashes that fuller, wide-awake look without clumping or feeling heavy. It stays on throughout the day without flaking, and comes off with your favorite cleanser and no rubbing. If your lashes need a little extra help these days, this one really delivers.
3. Cup Holder with Marker Slots
Party people rejoice! This wooden cup holder is such a clever hosting accessory, especially for parties or gatherings. The built-in marker slot makes it easy for guests to label their cups, which is so practical. It’s a small detail that makes entertaining feel more thoughtful.
4. Making the Best of What’s Left: When We’re Too Old to Get the Chairs Reupholstered by Judith Viorst
At 94, Judith Viorst, author of 40+ books and humorist, tackles how to age well in this, her latest book. She offers lessons from her own life and fellow seniors on making meaning in later life, even as much slips away. She interviewed her peers as they stood in line for Covid shots and made their way to dinner. Aging-well themes emerged, including the importance of new friendships and interdependence, as well as keeping your mind sharp and engaged. You will love her reflections on aging, gratitude, and embracing life exactly where you are. This book is honest, tender, and deeply relatable—especially for women navigating midlife and later seasons.
5. Seranova Microinfusion System
This was something I was genuinely curious about, so I tried it this month—and I was surprised by the immediate results. Micro-infusion uses very tiny, shallow needles to help active ingredients get past the surface of the skin, which can improve absorption and support smoother, more refreshed-looking skin over time. It does take a little extra time and intention, but I’m going to keep using it consistently and will share a full post soon once I’ve had more time to see how my skin responds. Have you tried it? If so, let me know your thoughts in the comments, okay?
6. Drawer Organizer Trays
I love these clear organizer trays and use them throughout my house apartment! They’re a game-changer for drawers or cabinets that feel out of control. They work well for makeup, jewelry, kitchen tools, and office supplies, making everything easier to find. Simple, practical, and so satisfying!
7. Lip Volumizer
RoC’s Derm Correxion Lip Volumizer isn’t one of those lip products that sting or promise dramatic results. It uses moisture-attracting ingredients (like glycerin and hyaluronic-style hydrators) along with emollients that help seal that moisture in, which smooths fine lines and makes lips look naturally fuller. As we age, lips tend to lose moisture and definition; this helps by improving texture rather than irritating the skin. It’s a great option if your lips have started feeling drier, thinner, or less defined with age.
8. Weekend Skin Tinted Moisturizer
This beauty award-winning tinted moisturizer makes getting ready easier and faster. Weekend Skin is a true multitasker—it combines mineral SPF 50, vitamin C, and niacinamide in one step, delivering light, flexible coverage that gives my skin a healthy, dewy glow without looking like makeup. I love it for everyday wear when I want my skin to look polished but still natural, especially in this season when less really is more. You can also take 20% off with code SUZY20, which makes it even better.
9. Double-Sided Gift Wrap Organizer
This hanging organizer is perfect for keeping wrapping paper, gift bags, and supplies neatly stored and easy to grab. It’s especially helpful if you’re downsizing or trying to be more intentional about organization. For me, it’s been a smart solution that saves both space and time.
10. Purse Vase For Flowers
This beautiful handmade glass vase is such a conversation piece—it looks like a chic little handbag but works beautifully as home décor. Perfect for flowers, centerpieces, or even just styled on a shelf. Add my favorite artificial tulips to instantly elevate your space.
11. Bow Sweater
This lightweight sweater has a fun bow detail that makes it feel feminine without trying too hard. It comes in several color options. (See them HERE.) I think it’s a great transitional piece that works well with jeans or dressier bottoms. For me, it’s been one of those wardrobe finds that feel current and age-appropriate.
12. Reusable Grocery Bag/Box (Folds Flat!)
This structured, reusable, insulated grocery bag is my assistant, Beth’s find this month! It stands up on its own, stays open, and folds flat when you’re not using it. It’s sturdy and practical, making grocery runs feel more organized. It’s one of those everyday items that truly improves daily life.
13. Anthro Icon Earrings
These well-priced stud earrings (under $30!) from Anthropologie are simple, timeless, and incredibly versatile. They’re easy to wear every day but still feel special enough to dress up an outfit. They come ready for gift-giving in a clear, heart-shaped box. Lots of other style options on these. Click HERE to see them.
I hope you feel smarter than you did when you started this post! I’d love to know what you’re learning & loving in your empty nest. Got anything to share? Spill the tea in the comments for our little community, okay?

Yes, cruises are so popular! I think because there are really unlimited options are far as destinations, size of ships, levels of luxury, and specific options for foodies, active travelers, and more! It’s so fun for me to find just the right itinerary and cruise line for my clients. Very excited for your upcoming cruise!
