Best New (ish) Christmas Movies to Watch on Netflix & Prime

This time of year, I love turning on a sweet, clean Christmas movie while I wrap presents or get my morning workout in. My assistant, Beth — who is much better at relaxing than I am — loves to settle onto the sofa with a blanket and soak them in! However you like to watch, these newer Hallmark-style holiday movies are a lot of fun this season.

Oh, and I’m sharing a few of my recent favorite holiday looks with you while I’m at it!

1️⃣ My Secret Santa (Netflix)
Single mom Taylor (Alexandra Breckenridge from Virgin River) takes a Santa job at a ski resort to help fund her daughter’s dreams. When the resort manager (Ryan Eggold) starts noticing something unexpectedly charming about Santa, things turn charmingly cozy and romantic. It’s sweet, easy watching — perfect for multitasking or relaxing!
2️⃣ A Castle for Christmas (Netflix)
I really loved this one! Brooke Shields stars as a bestselling author who flees to Scotland after a career fiasco — and finds herself falling for a castle she’d love to call home. Cary Elwes (from The Princess Bride) plays the handsome and grumpy Duke, who isn’t too excited about the idea of selling it to an American. As they spar and slowly soften toward each other, the cozy charm of Scotland — twinkling lights, friendly locals, and snow-covered castle walls — will completely sweep you away.

3️⃣ Jingle Bell Heist (Netflix)
If you like your holiday movies with a bit of playful mischief tossed in, this one is such fun! The story follows two struggling Londoners (Olivia Holt and Connor Swindells) who team up to try to pull off a Christmas Eve heist — but nothing goes according to plan. There are hilarious mishaps, unexpected connections, and just enough heart to remind you that even the imperfect moments can lead to the sweetest surprises.
4️⃣ Champagne Problems (Netflix)
This movie serves up romance with a touch of glitz — think sparkling holiday parties, elegant settings, and stunning winter landscapes. An American exec played by Minka Kelly finds herself at a crossroads emotionally, and in that vulnerable place, she unexpectedly reconnects with someone (Tom Wozniczka) who just might help her believe in new beginnings again. It’s grown-up, heartfelt, and well-done.

5️⃣ A Merry Little Ex-Mas (Netflix)
Starring Alicia Silverstone and Oliver Hudson, this movie shows how delightfully messy and meaningful family holidays can be. Trying to give their kids the “perfect family Christmas,” a divorced couple decides to join forces for one last holiday celebration under the same roof. Naturally, old emotions and new complications make this anything but simple! What follows is a sweet and funny exploration of what really matters at Christmastime — love, forgiveness, and maybe a second chance.
6️⃣ Our Little Secret (Netflix)
Lindsay Lohan and Ian Harding star as exes who unexpectedly spend Christmas together when their current partners turn out to be siblings. Determined not to ruin the holiday, they try to keep their history under wraps — but secrets, old feelings, and Kristin Chenoweth as a meddling mom make that nearly impossible.

7️⃣ The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (Prime Video. Rent for $3.99 or buy for $7.99. I suggest BUY!)
My favorite! (Which is why I put it in even though it isn’t FREE.) This sweet, family-friendly movie tells the story of a church Christmas pageant turned upside down when a group of unruly kids unexpectedly lands all the lead roles. While chaos definitely ensues, the result is a surprising and touching portrayal of grace and belonging. It’ll make you laugh, make you smile, and maybe even make you think a bit deeper about the heart of the Christmas story.
8️⃣ Christmas Under the Northern Lights (Prime Video)
A woman returns to her snowy hometown in the far north just as the Christmas season — and the breathtaking Northern Lights — arrive. While working through old memories and new feelings, she slowly rediscovers connection, purpose, and the joy she thought she had lost. Oh, and also, a handsome guide shows her the local sights! The scenery alone is stunning!

9️⃣ A Paris Christmas Waltz (Netflix)
Jen Lilley stars as Emma, an accountant who quits her job right before Christmas and unexpectedly finds herself invited by former pro dancer Leo (Matthew Morrison of Glee fame) to train for a holiday ballroom competition in Paris. Their rehearsals lead to snowy streets, sparkling lights, and a sweet connection that neither of them saw coming. It’s romantic, pretty, and full of the stunning Parisian scenery at Christmas.

🔟 A Boy Called Christmas (Netflix)
Before Santa was Santa, there was a determined young boy named Nikolas who sets out on a snowy quest to find his father. His journey leads him to a hidden village of elves, a loyal reindeer companion, and a whole lot of unexpected wonder. It’s a sweet story about courage, believing in goodness, and how a little hope can change everything.

Merry watching, sweet friends! 🎄❤️

I have been bingeing on all the new , or new to me anyway, Christmas movies. I have watched all of these!! I really enjoyed Champagne Problems, Jingle Bell Heist and Christmas Under the Northern Lights the most. Did you see Oh.What.Fun on Amazon? Michelle Pfeiffer plays the perfect mom, creating the perfect Christmas with her adult children. Her misguided good intentions forget her children are adults with lives of their own. Perfect theme for your blog :)!!
LInda,
You’ve seen some good ones! Yes, I did watch that, but it didn’t quite make my squeaky clean cut, thanks to some language and drug use. But the mom’s feelings were certainly relatable!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the post! Merry Christmas to you!
xoxo

Really liked new ones this year – My Secret Santa, Merry Little Ex-mas and Jingle Bell Heist.
I’ve seen several of the new-ish ones too. All good Christmas movies!

This is a great list, Suzy! My husband and I have watched a few of these, and I really liked “My Secret Santa” because it has a bit of a plot twist compared to so many of these Hallmark type movies. It’s so nice to be able to watch something where you know they’ll have a happy ending and you’re not going to be exposed to any embarrassing scenes!🙈
Don’t forget to watch some of the classics like “It’s a Wonderful Life!❤️
Merry Christmas!
Betsie,
I agree! So nice to watch when you know you’re not going to have to cover your eyes! Hahaha
Yes, watching the classics is a given!
Merry Christmas, my friend!
xoxo

The most family friendly, or squeaky clean Christmas movies can be found on Great American Family Channel on cable. I watched “Christmas Under the Northern Lights” and “A Paris Christmas Waltz” on this channel, the latter being tied for my favorite new(ish) movie. Such beautiful scenes, costumes, storyline and some of the best actors in this genre. The actresses in these two films, are my favorite two in this genre, and are amazing, inspiring women. The men as well.
