How (& Why) to Protect Your Liver

Do you take supplements? Most of us do. Beware! Because supplements are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration the same way other over-the-counter medications are, there is no guarantee of the ingredients and potency of these pills. Taking too much can potentially be toxic. For example, in a 2024 study in the journal JAMA Network Open, turmeric and green tea supplements were the most commonly consumed of six supplements associated with liver toxicity. 

Free Hearing Test

Download the FREE app Hearing Number, recently launched by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. It checks you ability to hear softersounds, which tends to worsen with age. Each ear will be ranked with a number between 10 and 100 decibels indicating the softest level of sound you can hear. The lower the number, the better your hearing (10-20 dB is considered normal). If your number is over 20, make an appointment with an audiologist (usually via an ENT physician). Learn more HERE.

5. Loop Engage 2 Ear Plugs

Bob and I love going to concerts. We’ve seen everyone from the Eagles to Forrest Frank! But as we’ve gotten older, the noise has really started to bother us. And with good reason! The decibel level at most concerts is 110 decibels. (For reference, normal conversation is about 70 decibels.) Earplugs can be a great option for a situation when you cannot escape potentially damaging noise for an extended period of time.

You’ll need to know their noise reduction rating (NRR), which indicates the amount of noise blocked (typically 10-33 decibels).
