Want to get organized and stay that way? Oh, I’ve got big help for you today!
If you’re like me, organizing is something you’ve really focused on during the past six months. Some people tackled smaller projects like reorganizing their kitchens, some cleaned out the long-ignored attic or garage, and some even decided to make major changes, like downsizing, selling, or (like us) remodeling. Wherever you fall on that continuum, I can promise you that today’s post is going to get you motivated, inspired, and excited!
For me, staying at home more shone a light on some big issues that needed attention: some were with my actual physical home, some were related to my stress levels, some were related to a lack of balance in my life. But you know what? All of them were contributing to a lack of peace in my life.
Today, I’m going to be sharing one practical and stylish organizational trend, one helpful tool designed to help you cut the clutter, and one amazing (free) resource that I’ve been keeping a secret since last spring! 😮😲😱 As always, I only share things with you that I have used myself, loved, and can endorse without reservation! Let’s dive in, okay?

Get Organized: The Hottest Trend
The biggest trend in home organization this summer became big baskets—specifically water hyacinth storage bins. They’ve become everyone’s go-to organizational catchall! They’re functional, easy to label, and oh-so-stylish. My favorites are the ones at The Container Store for quality and durability, but Target and Amazon both have great selections too.
- The Container Store has sizes ranging from XS (10-3/4″ x 7-1/2″ x 4″ h) all the way up to L (17-1/4″ x 11-3/4″ x 8″ h). They’re beautifully constructed!
- Target has lots of options, but I especially like this set of three water hyacinth handled baskets because they have lids! Click HERE to check out the sizes.
- Amazon, as you can probably imagine, has the widest selection! They’ve got (pricey) foldable water hyacinth baskets, nesting baskets, and they’ve even got the same set of lidded baskets as Target. (For the exact same price!)
If you’re investing, be sure to finish off your baskets with cute clip-on labels that you can either label with dry erase or chalk markers. THESE from Amazon come with prewritten labels that are perfect for kitchen and pantry organization.
Get Organized: The Coolest Tool
Have you heard of Legacybox? They’re a one-stop digitizing company that will convert your videotapes, film reels, photos, and slides to cloud storage, thumb drive, or DVD. That way they’re easily accessible, easy to share with loved ones, and (maybe best of all) they take up way less space.
You may remember that back in May, I told you about the thoughtful gift my oldest son gave me for Mother’s Day: A Legacybox Starter Kit! After using the service one time, I officially become addicted! I’ve been so happy every single time I’ve used them, and can’t say enough good things about their service. Here’s how it works:
- You order a Legacybox kit on their website. Pricing is based on how many items you want to digitize.
- Once you fill your box, you place the shipping label on the outside of your box and drop it off at any UPS location. (Tracking is included.)
- Once Legacybox receives your items, their team of over 200 trained technicians digitize every item by hand.
- They provide you with real-time updates throughout the digitizing process. (Usually about 6-8 weeks.)
Legacybox has over ten years of experience in the industry. They regularly provide their services not only to families, but also to museums, governments, and universities (850K and counting!). Satisfaction is guaranteed, and they’re located right here in the U.S.! Still have questions? Click HERE for their FAQ page.
As I said, I’ve really loved Legacybox, and I know you will too! This weekend I’m going to take advantage of their awesome Labor Day Sale by sending in more precious memories for them to digitize! Now through Friday, September 11, Legacybox is offering up to 60% off E-Deals, so it’s a great time to try out their service. If you’re apprehensive, I recommend starting with the Starter Kit, as I did. It’s normally $59.99, but it’s only $29.99 during this sale, and you can convert up to 2 tapes, or 2 films, or 2 sets of 25 pictures to digital.
Once you purchase, they send you an email with your Legacybox E-Deal along with instructions on how to use it. When you’re ready, you can redeem your E-Deal on Legacybox.com for a Legacybox that you fill at home and send in to get the digitizing process started!
Get Organized: The Timely Resource
I’ve been keeping a little secret from you….🤫 I’ve never done anything like this before, but back in the spring I agreed to be a speaker at the Get Organized HQ Conference. Little did I know when I agreed to do it that in the next six months, organizing would become a national pastime 😂!
I’m sure you’re wondering why I’m a speaker for an event about organizing! Yeah, me too! 🤣 Here’s how it went down: The organizers of Get Organized HQ got in touch with me this spring because past participants have specifically asked for content about transitioning to the empty nest. (And apparently, if you Google “empty nest,” your pal Suzy pops up somewhere!) I’ll be talking about Preparing for the Empty Nest, and my session goes live on Thursday, September 17th @ 1:00 PM ET. (To check out all of the speakers, click HERE and scroll to the bottom of the page.
There were three big reasons I committed to speak at this conference:
- I hear from Empty Nest Blessed readers all the time that their beautifully busy lives in the empty nest are more stressful and chaotic than they expected.😟
- The tagline for the Get Organized HQ Conference is “Less Stress, More Peace.” That’s what I want. And that’s what I want for you too. 😊
- As a speaker, I get an All-Access Pass for free. 😁 (More about the All-Access Pass in a moment.) I’ve already watched several sessions and I’ve learned so much! I’ll be sharing some of my favorites with you in the coming weeks!
Get Organized HQ is a FREE online event that will show you step by step how to organize your life and streamline your home. You’ll be able to learn from over 70 been there, done that experts on every topic from meal planning to quick cleaning, digital photo organizing and paper clutter to home management, finances, organization, and more! Did I mention that it’s completely free to attend? Completely. Free. The conference takes place online, September 14th – 18th, and since it’s a virtual conference, you can enjoy it right from the comfort of your own home!
When you register for the event with the FREE pass, a detailed schedule will immediately hit your inbox. You’ll have access to at least a dozen sessions every day! The schedule will allow you to highlight the sessions you want to watch. Each session will be available for FREE for 24 hours. Not sure which sessions to watch? The organizers of Get Organized HQ created a FUN QUIZ to help you find and pick the ideal sessions for you! When you claim your ticket, the quiz will arrive in your inbox.🙌🏻
Don’t want to wait until September 14th to start watching for free? There’s also an option to purchase an All-Access Pass, which allows you to start viewing immediately! It also gives you immediate & lifetime access to every session, along with time-saving cheat sheets and valuable bonuses from each speaker. (Click HERE for more info.) The All-Access Pass allows you to watch the sessions whenever it fits your schedule, and then review them as often as you want. Here’s a breakdown of the difference between the two passes.
The All-Access Pass is just $29 for two more days. On Thursday, September 3rd at 10:00 PM ET, it goes up to $39. Then, after that, it goes up incrementally a couple more times between now and the conference.
I hope you feel motivated and equipped to press on in your pursuit of a beautifully busy life, instead of a chaotic, stressful, and disorganized one. Know that I’m right there with you.
