Happy Weekend, empty nester friends! This is a photo of me yesterday morning at about 5:30 a.m.! We left chilly Dallas and headed for our favorite place in the world! Once there, I peeled off my faux leather leggings, swapped out my tennies for flip flops, and I was good to go!
We’re waking up in our happy place this morning! That’s right! We’re at our condo on Sanibel Island! If you’re not familiar with Sanibel, it’s a darling island on southwest Florida’s Gulf Coast. It’s an easy plane flight right to Fort Myers. (We go non-stop from Dallas. ✈) Once you’re in Fort Myers, you take a causeway over to our beloved island. Along with its sister island, Captiva, the islands feature 15 miles of beaches, 25 miles of bike paths, 50 types of fish, 230 species of birds, 250 types of shells and zero traffic lights! (You can read more HERE and HERE.)
This time, we brought along our 27-year-old son, Connor. (Poor guy hasn’t had a vacation since he graduated from Law School a year and a half ago!) I absolutely love having one of my kids all to myself for a period of time! To really dive deep, there’s just no substitute for one-on-one time! Do you feel that way too?
Our condo is at Casa Ybel Resort, and it’s a cozy little one bedroom/one bath unit. (Honestly, I think the size is one of our favorite things about it!) Our unit has a king-size bed and a sleeper sofa, but we found it just a little too cozy when we wanted to bring a kid or two along! 😂 (Also, I never wanted to bring a friend, because sharing a king-size bed with them just felt weird! 😆)
So earlier this year, we bought a second, adjacent unit, complete with two queen beds and a sleeper sofa. That way, our kids, and later their families, can be close by—but everybody still has their own space! 🙌
We think Casa Ybel is a pretty special resort, with every unit facing the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. (For a live beach cam, click HERE.) This year, all of the one-bedroom condos in the resort were refurbished and redecorated! I got to help with this because I somehow got myself elected to the Condo Association Board two years ago! (I know, right?) 🤣 I thought it might be fun for you all to see some before and after shots of the new look! Keep in mind that the before photos are professional pics, whereas, the new photos are just my unedited, over-exposed iPhone snaps! 😬
Did you see the Instastory I posted last week about my new business cards? I started the order at the Vistaprint site, but since I’m not a graphic designer, I had some trouble doing a few of the things I wanted to do. So I called their helpline and a real, live graphic designer took about 20 minutes to help me personalize my cards and get them exactly the way I wanted them. I was amazed at that level of customer service and I love my new cards! (See below!)
Have you heard about Tropical Storm Nestor? It’s supposed to rain on our island this weekend.🌧 If that happens, Bob and Connor will be all about college football, and I’m going to get some serious work done on the Empty Nest Blessed Holiday Gift Guide! 🎁🙌
Have a wonderful weekend, whatever you’re up to, my friends!
