Happy New Year, friends! I love the freshness of a new year, don’t you? It’s a time to reflect on the previous year, and consider what we want to do differently in the coming year. I’m not really big on those giant resolutions some people make, but I do appreciate the opportunity to kind of press the restart button and resolve to do more of a few things and less of a few things in the year ahead. Today, I’m getting personal and sharing my resolutions with you.
Here’s What I’m Going to do MORE
√ Move & Stand – Even though I work out, my actual step count has decreased since the kids left home. (Plus, with Empty Nest Blessed, I found that I was sitting at the computer too much.) Bob recently got me a convertible standing desk, and I’m surprised by how much I love it! I actually work faster and I’m a lot more energized standing than sitting! I thought they were super expensive, but they’re really not! (The price has gone down a lot since the original ones came out a few years ago.
√ Toss Products – I’m going to do a better job of tossing makeup and skincare products that don’t work or that I’m just hanging onto because they were expensive.
√ Clean Up & Clear Out – I’m going to sell my gently owned clothes on Swap.com or Thredup.com, my used electronics on Gazelle.com, and everything else I don’t want on Ebay.
√ Try New Things – As I get older, I become more resistant to trying new things! Do you? I don’t want to be that “stuck in my ways” person who is afraid to learn or try new things.
√ Get Out of the House – I’ve found that if I don’t get out of the house at least once a day, I tend to get kind of depressed. I need to get out, even if it’s just to run a quick errand or take a walk around the block.
√ Interact – I want to interact with y’all more and get to know you better! Stay tuned for an exciting announcement about this!
√ Share Myself – Along those same lines, I’m going to be braver about sharing more of myself with you, in the hope that my authenticity will encourage you! To be totally honest, I think sometimes I hide behind my professional photos! (It feels safer, somehow!) But I want to really push myself outside of that comfort zone (if you’ll have me!), so look for more selfies, more candids, and especially more video on my Instagram and Facebook feeds, and especially on my Stories. (If you want to bail now, I understand!!! Hahaha!)
Here’s What I’m Going to do LESS
√ Compare – When I compare myself to others, I usually end up on the short end of the stick. Sigh. I’m going to try to remind myself that I’m a work in progress.
√ Self-Criticize – We all feel insecure about ourselves sometimes, and working in a field dominated by younger, tech-savvy Millennials doesn’t help with this! I tell myself that I’m too old, too dumb, and too (fill in the blank here), embarrassingly often. I need to remind myself that my worth is not in what I look like, know, or do. It’s in He who made me and loves me. I am truly full and complete in Him. (Col. 2:10)
√ Talk – I want to be slow to speak and quick to listen. I need to stop blurting and think more about if what I have to say is really necessary. My favorite litmus test of what comes out of my mouth is Ephesians 4:29. (“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” NIV translation)
√ Fear – I’m scared of so many things! I’m scared of something happening to Bob or one of my kids. I’m scared of what other people think of me. I’m scared of not being a blessing and a help to you all. Y’all, fear is the ugly stepsister of insecurity. The antidote? I think it’s authenticity, vulnerability, and faith. As I said, I’m going to share more of myself with you this year. Yikes!
√ Try to do Everything Myself – I think it’s time for me to hire an assistant! (Bob thinks it is, and that’s sayin’ something.) Anybody interested?

This soft and cozy convertible tunic can be worn off-the-shoulder, boat neck style, or as a cowl neck. It comes in a bunch of colors ????????❤️???????????????? and is 40% off right now, so it’s going fast! It runs large. It also runs long, so you might even consider ordering a petite, even if you’re not under 5’3″. Free shipping and returns.
My jeans are from NYDJ (my favorite brand) and they’re stretch and hold you in right where you need it most! (Especially after the holidays! LOL.) Recently, I posted a close-up photo of the bottom of them on Instagram, and everyone commented that they thought I’d gotten tattoos on my ankles! It was hilarious!!!
Finally, I want to tell you that I’m so thankful for YOU! I love when I have the opportunity to meet you in person and love reading and responding to your comments here as well as on Facebook and Instagram. I’m amazed every day by your support and encouragement. We’re in it together, friends, and you mean the world to me. I pledge to do my best in 2019 to bring you content that is encouraging, informative, inspiring, and most of all, a blessing.
Do you make resolutions? What are yours this year? I’d love to know, and I’d especially love to know if there is anything I can do to help you. Leave me a comment and share yours, okay?
