Bob and I just got back from a 4-day empty nester getaway to the beautiful Florida Keys! With two grown kids home for the summer, we knew we needed to build some weekend getaways for just the two of us into our summer plans. I’m so glad we did! We’ve found that, even in the empty nest, nurturing our marriage is something we have to be intentional about doing.
I posted lots on Instagram and in my Instastory while we were gone, and I had several people DM me and ask for a round-up of all of my vacation looks. I’m so happy to share them with you one more time, and the timing is good because several of them are discounted this week! Click on the pink links for more information on anything you see. Please know that these images were captured on my iPhone 7, so be kind! 🙂
We stayed at the luxurious and elegant Cheeca Lodge & Spa in Islamorada. It’s about a two-hour drive from Miami in the Upper Keys. If you’re interested in learning more, you can visit the Cheeca Lodge website. (But the deals are on Expedia or Priceline, and I’ve linked directly to the resort’s site on each of those.)
I wore this easy breezy summer dress to dinner the first night at sunset when we dined with our feet in the sand at Lazy Days Restaurant. I had blackened snapper and it was unbelieveable!
Shhhh…Don’t tell anybody, but I think Lilly Pulitzer has lowered prices! It used to be challenging to find anything that was under $100 at Lilly — but it isn’t now! I don’t know what happened, but I’ll take it! This comfy knit dress with the flattering neckline and ruffled front just called my name and I thought these white fan statement earrings were just so fun paired with it! (BTW, if you click on the hot pink earrings below, you’ll see the white ones I wore. #techproblems)
I’m just beside myself that the high-waisted bikini is back in style. It’s made me brave enough to wear a two-piece again! I love that it’s modest and it holds in all that loose skin (and whatever else you’ve got going on down there). 🙂 Since I’m pretty small up top, I opted for a bandeau bikini top with a big bow on the front, to add a little padding!
All water activities are included at Cheeca, so we snorkeled off the beach, fished, and paddleboarded. We also went out on a snorkeling trip with the resort. (One of our favorite things to do as a couple is snorkeling!) Bob snapped this right before I jumped in at the reef at Cheeca Rock, which is about a 10-minute boat ride from the resort. We saw nurse sharks, rays, barracuda, tarpon, grouper, sea turtles, and of course lots of those cute, colorful reef fish.
I wore this outfit to dinner on our second night in Islamorada, where we dined (again, with our feet in the sand!) at the Morada Bay Beach Cafe. #delish
Once again, both of these pieces from Lilly Pulitzer come in at well under $100. (Praise hands, y’all!!!!) The Lilly Pulitzer site only has two big sales a year. One is in August, and one is in January. In the meantime, they do incentives like gifts with purchase. This holiday week they’re giving away drink huggers, wrap necklaces, printed coolers, and even sun canopies, depending on the amount of your purchase. (They are all totally adorable, of course!) If you’re a Lilly lover like me, you might want to check out these limited edition items here.
On our final night at Cheeca, we dined at Atlantic’s Edge, right at the resort. (They have several restaurants that are all wonderful.)
This was Bob’s favorite thing I wore on our trip! I don’t wear off-the-shoulder dresses very often, but this one was just too special to pass up! It’s under $25 right now, which is completely phenomenal for a fully lined eyelet dress, dontcha think???
This is the outfit I wore to travel home. I love green, and I’m always looking for fun green tops to wear to football games (green and gold are the colors of my alma mater). I just love this adorable cotton tie-neck tank! Unfortunately, my green one is no longer available, but it also comes in a blue print and a beautiful solid blue as well. It’s always freezing on airplanes, so I wore this little white cardi (under $50 and comes in 6 colors) over my shoulders when I got chilly. You’ve seen me wearing these lace hem crop jeans in multiple posts, so you know they’ve become my summer staple! They’re 40% off right now! The perforated slip ons I’m wearing on my feet are ones I’ve had for years. I love them because they’re comfy and the perforated leather keeps my feet cool! Mine are several years old, so I’ve linked similar (46% off).
Just as an afterthought, I thought you might want to see what I wore to travel to Islamorada. Bob worked in Miami all week, so I flew in to meet him on Thursday, and we headed down to the Keys. I wore this slub-knit tee dress that is only $8. (Yep, you read that right!) It comes in 6 color/patterns options, and they’re all $8 right now. What??? (They’re going fast, so if you’re interested, I’d hop on this!) Since I knew I’d freeze on the plane, I threw on some lightweight black leggings, which I promptly peeled off in the Miami airport bathroom! I didn’t want to pack another pair of shoes, so I paired the whole thing with my white slip ons, white fan earrings, and my white cardi for a pulled-together black & white look.
Do y’all have big plans for the 4th? We’re having everybody over to our place to swim, and I’m so excited! With everyone headed off in other directions starting this weekend, we figured out it’s the last time we’ll probably all be together until Thanksgiving! It’s too hot to grill out, so we’re ordering fajitas in for dinner. It might not be super Americana, but hey, it’ll keep me out of the kitchen and in the pool, so yay! Watch my Instastory and Facebook Story for fun BTS pics! (I’d love to see your pics on Insta, so tag @emptynestblessed if you think about it, okay?) 🙂
Later this week, I’ve got a post I’ve been working on for some time, and I can’t wait to share it with you! For now, all I’m going to tell you is the title: The “Rules” for Mothers-in-Law | How to Be the Best One You Can Be.” You won’t want to miss it!
Happy 4th, sweet friends!
