Most of us have lived long enough to see the jumpsuit trend come and go a few times! It’s back in force right now, and it’s got a new, fresh look that makes it a stylish trend for women over fifty to embrace. Today, we’re jumping on the jumpsuit trend, and I’m going to give you a few tips to help you wear it well. I’ve also curated a boutique of stylish jumpsuits at all price points just for you! They’re at the very bottom of this post. 🙂
If you’ve been hanging around here awhile, you know my love for all things denim and chambray. I’d been scouring websites to find the perfect jumpsuit to share with you all when I stumbled upon this cutie. The fun bows at the shoulders and the playful slit at the side basically did me in good and proper!
The Jumpsuit Trend: What to Look For
Wide Legs – Although you’ll find tapered legs on some jumpsuits, I’d recommend you go with a wider leg instead for a newer, fresher look. Wide legs are a style must-have for fall, and you’ll look on point and fashion forward if you hop on that trend now. (Make a note to snag some wide-leg jeans or slacks when you shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this year! Watch for my insider tips on how to shop that sale coming next week.) Also, wider legs make your waist look smaller, which is always a good thing, right? 🙂
Flowy Fabrics – Look for cool fabrics that drape well, like rayon, viscose (another word for rayon), or polyester. To fit well and hug your curves in all the right places, opt for a touch of spandex or elastane (another word for spandex) as well. Be sure you’re wearing underwear that doesn’t show lines! (If you need an undie upgrade, I’d recommend Vanishing Edge panties from Soma. They are awesome.)
The Arm Issue – Most of the jumpsuits out there right now are sleeveless. I hear from lots of you who aren’t comfortable showing your upper arms. I get it! If that’s the case, you can either opt for a wrap like this beautiful chiffon one to wear over a sleeveless jumpsuit or go with a jumpsuit style that covers your upper arms like this one or this one.
The Jumpsuit Trend: Make the Details Count
Most of the jumpsuits in stores right now are a solid color. To make a solid color jumpsuit uniquely your own, show your personal style in one of two ways:
Look for Built-in Embellishment – My denim jumpsuit has built-in detailing with bows on the shoulders and slits on the legs. In order to emphasize those embellishments, I styled it with simple accessories in one color scheme. Designer logo belts emerged as a significant trend this winter, and they’re still going strong. My Tory Burch logo belt is reversible to on-point metallic gold, which made me feel better about the splurge! I actually bought a larger size than needed to fit around my waist, so that I could wear it with jeans or slacks as well as at my natural waist. I took it to my cobbler, and he punched additional holes in it so I would have the option to wear it both ways. (Most cobblers will do this for free! Mine did.) I also paired it with my must-have wedges of the summer. I know y’all are sick of me singing their praises, but they really have been my go-to shoe of the season! They come in four colors, and they’re easier to walk in than you’d think, thanks to the small platform on the front. Rattan circle bags have been all over the internet and might just be the “it” bag of the season. I researched all of the options before buying and found this one for cheap on Amazon. I feel so hipster and trendy when I carry it! I also kept my earrings simple, with these classic gold Kendra Scott filigree drops.
