I know it’s hard to believe, but Father’s Day is June 17! Didn’t we just have Mother’s Day?
Y’all, I had the best time putting together this gift guide. Why? Because I love dads! I have a loving, thoughtful, and fun dad, and my husband was (and still is) a great dad to our kids. I’m so thankful that our two boys have him as a model of what a good father should be! Besides being a great example to our sons, my husband taught our daughter that she was precious and special, and he’s given her high standards when it comes to dating. When she was little, he started taking her on “dates” to some of the Dallas Summer Musicals. The poor man suffered through everything from The Little Mermaid to Mary Poppins because it delighted his daughter, and he never said a word. I’m so thankful for him!
According to multiple studies, fathers have a significant impact on the lives of their children:
√ Playful and affectionate interaction with their dads predisposes a child to positive social-emotional involvement with others.
√ Involved fathers are more likely to have physically healthy children.
√ Kids with involved fathers begin school with higher levels of academic readiness, and those same kids go on greater success academically.
√ Children with dads who spent time talking with them speak earlier and are more verbally expressive.
√ Boys with active fathers are less likely to have difficulties with school delinquency.
√ Daughters with fathers who made them do chores were more ambitious when it came to their own careers.
√ Young women with engaged fathers also had higher self-esteem.
Yay for dads!
At the end of this post, you’ll find the complete Empty Nest Blessed Father’s Day Gift Guide. As I put together this gift guide, I looked for some gifts that were unique, some that were whimsical, and some that were practical. Whether you’re buying a Father’s Day gift for your son who is a new dad, giving a gift to your senior dad, or giving to the empty nesty daddy at your house, I hope you find something special! I’ve got ideas from $11.99 all the way up to $199, so there is truly something here for every father on your list. One final word. I know that not everyone had a good father. Those wounds can go deep and last a lifetime. My heart goes out to those of you who struggle in that way.
I also know that many of you have lost your dads, and this holiday is difficult for you. I wish I could give you a big hug right now.
Finally, I know that many of my readers are single moms. Those of you who were both mother and father to your kids have my admiration and respect. (And I know you have your kids love and appreciation too.)
Don’t forget to Pin this post for future reference!
