Once a month I open up, give you a life update, and share my heart with you. I wish I could sit down and have coffee with each one of you, and we could have a good long chat, but I know that’s impossible. So, In the spirit of those old SNL “Coffee Talk” skits with Mike Myers as Linda Richman, let’s have cawfee, and let’s tawk! Here’s what’s on my heart this month.
Did you hear about the Christie Brinkley aging controversy this month? The 64-year-old posted a photo to social media, which went viral when someone commented that she “looks old now, but still pretty.” The folks at CW33’s Morning Dose TV found me, labeled me a “blogger on aging” (er, okayyyyy) and asked me to comment on the situation. I thought y’all might like to hear what I had to say.
BTW, I was completely mortified at how terrible the lighting looked in my interview. (I’ve learned that lighting is everything in photography!) After it aired, I immediately got on Amazon and ordered this fancy-schmancy light that all the beauty bloggers use! Next time I will look much better, I promise. In fact, the next time I do a Facebook Live, you probably won’t even recognize me at all. 🙂 (Did you catch my last Facebook Live, BTW?)
A Typo Trauma
One day this month I was writing an important, business-type email from the two of us. I was typing fast, and in my haste, I inadvertently typed “Suxy” instead of “Suzy” in the signature line! (The “z” and the”x” keys are right next to each other, so yeahhhhh.) Then, to make matters worse, I typed “Bib” instead of “Bob.” (Again, the two characters are next door neighbors.) I didn’t notice my mistake, so I SENT THE EMAIL. (Ahhhhh…!!!) Of course, once I noticed, I sheepishly sent a correction. 🙂
I knew I’d have to confess my mistake to
Bib Bob when he got home. He’s such a sweet guy, but I knew that he might never let me live it down. (LOL.) When I poured the whole story out to him, complete with lots of facial expressions and dramatic hand gestures, he calmly said, “Welp, I guess we have our grandparent names now.” #emailfail #besthusbandever
Have you ever had a huge email fail? I’d love to hear about it! (It would make me feel SO much better!) 🙂
The Royal Wedding
I’m kinda embarrassed to admit that I am super into the royal wedding. My daughter is out of town, but my daughter-in-law is coming over, and we are going to soak it in, baby. I might even break out my Homecoming Queen tiara, which is on the shelf in the photo above. The photo is from yesterday’s post about part-time work opportunities for empty nesters. In it, I gave you a little visual tour of the world headquarters of Empty Nest Blessed (which measures 6’7″ x 3’9″ – I’m not even kidding you.). It’s tiny but filled with a lot of things I treasure. Come to think of it; maybe I should be more embarrassed that I still have my high school Homecoming Queen tiara than I should be about being all into the royal wedding!
Saturday night we’re hosting a big, Texas-themed graduation party for our law school graduate. We’re not only celebrating his graduation, but also the fact that he’s back in Texas, which is where his heart has longed to be. I posted this photo on my Instastory of the adorable cookies we’re serving for dessert. Dallas peeps, if you need delicious, decorated cookies for an upcoming special event, head over to Lone Star Cookie Jar on Instagram and get in touch with Haley. You won’t regret it. Cutest. Cookies. Ever.
On Wednesday, Bob and I are leaving for a little empty nester getaway in NYC! One of my readers asked me what trips we were taking this summer, and I told you all about our summer plans in this post. In fact, I spent the entire post answering reader questions, so if you haven’t checked it out yet, you might want to do that! Our getaway means that my posts might be a little spotty the next few weeks. Know that I’ll miss you all, and I’ll still be posting on Instagram, in my Instastory, and even a little bit on Facebook too, but I’m excited to have a few days to just focus on my man. (BTW, if you’re not seeing my posts as much as you used to on social media, the recent changes that Facebook and Instagram may be the reason. I told you the workaround in this post.)
I hope your weekend is fantastic! Be sure to watch my Instastory for BTS snaps of our weekend party fun. (You will not believe the fruit basket we’re going to make…What did we do before Pinterest???)
