In the empty nest, every night is date night! Still, Bob and I try to get out to do something fun together (besides just go out to eat because I was too lazy to cook!) at least once a week. When we do, I love to wear something feminine and fun that I know he’ll like. This sweater is the gorgeous teal-blue that we’re seeing everywhere right now. It captured my heart, and I styled it with some sweet “girlfriend” jeans that are loose and comfy. Whether we go bowling, to a concert, or just to dinner and a movie, I’m good to go.
I love the embroidery trend that’s everywhere right now. When I saw these floral-embroidered jeans, I just swooned! Several Empty Nest Blessed readers have asked me to please wear something besides skinny jeans in my fashion posts. Well, here ya’ go! Have you ever heard of “girlfriend” jeans? Basically, a girlfriend jean is a more feminine version of the “boyfriend” jean. The fit is more flattering and classic – it fits a little tighter than a boyfriend jean and sits higher on the hip, with a tapered slim straight leg. You know I’m a fan of the slimming effects of dark-wash denim, and this pair checks that box as well.
This sweater is divine, y’all! The ruffles soften the cold-shoulder looks and cover you up a bit if you’re cold-natured or your shoulders aren’t your favorite feature (but you still want to look current and updated). Until I bought this sweater, I didn’t own anything in this color, which is the most beautiful cross between blue and teal. It also comes in a soft gray and white, which would be perfect neutrals for those spring days when it’s still a little chilly, but you want to wear light colors. It’s on sale right now!
So often the details “make” an outfit, doncha think? Since I’m wearing this for our Valentine’s date, I wanted to wear something special that Bob gave me. He knows I’m a sucker for sparkle, and he gave me this Kendra Scott Platinum Drusy necklace and earring set for Christmas this year. I adore them! They are so sparkly and they look like they’re more expensive than they are. I wore them when I visited my parents in Florida, and they loved them. My dad, who is a geologist, then proceeded to teach me all about drusy! (Which, if you’re interested, is basically made up of tiny crystals that form within or on the surface of minerals — most typically quartz.) I think he was legitly excited that someone was making beautiful jewelry with it!
My suede booties are from Tom’s and I have worn and worn them this fall and winter. I am not joking when I tell you that they are easily as comfortable as my tennies. If you read my post on the Best Shoes for Midlife Women, you know how much I love them! They come in several colors (all on sale right now), which I’ve linked for you. For details, click the images below. (The image links will lead you to a landing page featuring the booties in my color — called Desert Taupe — once there, use the drop-down menu under “color” to see details on the other color options.)
Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to give thanks for love — in all its forms. Whether you’re celebrating love as a mom, grandma, daughter, girlfriend, fiance, gal pal, wife, or even pet lover, I hope you’ll take the time out to express your love to others. I’m so thankful for my parents, in-laws, husband, kids, daughter-in-law, friends, and grandpuppy this Valentine’s Day. But mostly, I’m thankful for my relationship with the One who taught me how to love. (“We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19)
Looking for a special Valentine’s gift for your man? Kisses 4 Us is a company that was born out of empty nesterdom itself! As a new empty nester, Kim Knollmeyer wanted to give her husband a gift that would bring a fun and romantic spark to their relationship. After having great success with her gift, Kim became convinced that other couples would have just as much fun as she and her husband had by rediscovering the magic of kissing. She spent a year developing the product and eventually launched Kisses 4 Us. Their “Kiss Kits” are gift boxes filled with cards describing various types of kisses (like the Frosty Kiss, Forehead Kiss, Sip Kiss, etc.). They make great gifts for Anniversaries, Weddings, Birthdays, or any other occasion. I gave this to Bob to celebrate our anniversary last year, and we’ve laughed our way through the entire box multiple times. My friends at Kisses 4 Us reached out to me and generously offered to give away a Kiss KIt to one of my readers! To enter, complete the tasks on the widget below to enter. The winner will be announced in Friday’s post. (BTW, if you join the Empty Nest Blessed mailing list right now, you’ll get my free guide to falling back in love in the empty nest.) 🙂
As we prepare to celebrate Valentine’s Day, I want you to know how much you mean to me. Thanks so much for sharing the fun, the challenges and the blessings of the empty nest alongside me. We’re in it together, sweet friends!
