I’m all for looking fashionable over fifty, but I’m not one of those people that thinks you can wear the same things in midlife that your college-age daughter wears. Instead, I think we fifty-plus fashionistas need to be creative about wearing the trends in an age-appropriate and classy way. I know not everyone agrees with me on this, and hey, that’s cool. You do you, gal. Wear what makes you feel pretty and confident!
I don’t have to tell you all that deconstructed jeans with holes are having a moment. One of my friends told me that she wanted to wear her pair, but she hadn’t shaved her legs in a while, so she just shaved the little two-inch by three-inch area that would show through the hole! Y’all, I could barely scrape myself off the floor, I laughed so hard! Personally, I think the still-a-kinda-edgy threadbare look is just a little better for our age group. (And no shaving necessary!) Today, I’m sharing the cutest threadbare jeans I’ve ever seen. This look is perfect to help you transition to spring (when florals are always popular), and it’s something I would wear on a date with Bob, out for a casual lunch with a friend, or even for a day of errands.
When I spotted these deconstructed floral print jeans at White House Black Market, I absolutely could not resist them! They combine the threadbare look with a feminine floral print underneath. Perfection! I bought them on the spot. When I got them home and put them on, I noticed that not only did the jeans have good “give” to them (so important in a skinny jean!), but the threads over the floral print were actually elasticized, making these babies easy to move in as I went through my day.
I love the look of a big, cozy sweater over skinny jeans or leggings. Don’t you? It’s flattering on most body types, and it’s a relaxed, casual look that’s perfect for the empty nester lifestyle. It’s pulled together and comfy, and it doesn’t look like you’re trying too hard. When I look for clothes, I always look for styles that have a little something “extra.” I loved the terra cotta color of this textured sweater, but the fun ties at the wrists were what made the look really special for me. It’s lightweight and breathable, making it perfect for spring—or that lovely moment when a hot flash comes along and momentarily disrupts your demeanor. 🙂 (Do you feel me, friends?) I’ll wear it well into spring. It’s available in several colors, which I’ve linked below (click the images for more info). If you order, know that it runs large, so you might want to order a size down.
I anchored my outfit with cute blush kicks. Mine are no longer available, but I found some Steve Madden blush kicks, on sale at Zappos that are great dupes. They’re 28% (???) percent off—not 25%, but 28%! (Okey-dokey, then, dudes at Zappos.) I love that Zappos offers free shipping and returns, but my favorite thing about the site might be the “Fit Survey” information they provide directly under the image of each pair of shoes they offer. It’s so helpful.
The Estella Bartlett Happy Thoughts Emoji necklace I’m wearing in this post was a Christmas gift from my awesome mother-in-law. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that this is my favorite (read that overused) emoji. I love Estella Bartlett’s entire line of feminine, whimsical jewelry and accessories. They’re priced right for gift-giving and would make the ideal Valentine’s Day surprise for a daughter or friend. Here are a few ideas:
Happy Friday, y’all! I’m so excited because Bob will be back tonight after being out of town on business for the past two weeks. I’ve missed him so much! Our sweet girl is coming in for a quick visit, so I’m looking forward to seeing her too. Next week, I’ll be sharing six style tips that all midlife women need, and also a post on common beauty mistakes that midlife women tend to make.
I hope you have wonderful weekend plans with those you love. Big hugs from Texas!
