Empty nester entrepreneurs are people just like you. They’ve raised and launched their children and decided to spend the “second act” of their lives pursuing their passions—and profiting from them. I’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to get to know several of these inspiring empty nester entrepreneurs, and they’ve graciously shared their stories with me. Today, I want to honor their courage and perseverance, and, well, hopefully, offer you (and them) a little encouragement along the way. We need to stick together and support one another, empty nesters!
Etsy is a haven for empty nester entrepreneurs and their small businesses! In 2010, empty nester Nancy Lacke decided to turn her lifelong passion for jewelry into a full-time business and established AdoreJules. She’s committed to offering a quality handmade product, sourcing materials from the USA, using only the best gemstones and repurposing well-loved vintage jewelry and components into unique pieces. You may have seen me wearing her xoxo necklace on my recent Facebook Live. The gorgeous gray pear drusy dangle earrings pictured above made my Holiday Gift Guide in the “Gifts for Her” section this year.
Acorn Gert & Brother Bert
I think books are gifts that keep on giving! Empty nester entrepreneur and author Betsy Stretar wants every child to know that they have amazing potential. She wrote Acorn Gert and Brother Bert to remind children of their inherent worth. What an important message! Perfect for children ages 5-10, this book will plant seeds of potential and destiny in their heart and minds. This book is featured in the “Gifts for Your Grands” section of my Holiday Gift Guide and is available in a multi-cultural version as well. She’s hard at work on the second book in the series right now.
Kisses 4 Us
Kisses 4 Us is a business born out of empty nesterdom itself! As their first Christmas as empty nesters approached, Kim Knollmeyer wanted to give her husband a gift that would bring a fun and romantic spark to their relationship. During her search for inspiration, she came across the tagline “Merry Kissmas.” It was, as they say, a “light bulb moment,” and after having great success with her gift, Kim became convinced that other couples would have just as much fun as they had by rediscovering the magic of kissing. She spent a year developing the product and eventually launched Kisses 4 Us. Their “Kiss Kits” are gift boxes filled with cards describing various types of kisses (like the Frosty Kiss, Forehead Kiss, Sip Kiss, etc.) that you can share with your partner to keep your romance alive. They make great gifts for Anniversaries, Weddings, Birthdays, or any other occasion. I gave this gift to Bob to celebrate our anniversary last year, and we have laughed our way through the entire box multiple times. I love this gift idea so much that I included it in the Empty Nest Blessed Holiday Gift Guide under the “Gifts for Her” section. You can order Kisses 4 Us on Amazon.
MidTerm Fix is a company that offers fun and creative care packages that you can send your kids. Their customized care packages are like a big hug from Mom! The company was founded by empty nester entrepreneur Rebecca Hastings, as a way to honor her daughter, Kelsey, who passed away from Ewing Sarcoma. Every year she donates a portion of her proceeds to cancer centers specializing in childhood cancer research. Two years ago, I sent one of their care packages to my son, and he was blown away to receive such a unique gift. Pictured above is the Holiday Care Package. So cute, right? To learn more about MidTerm Fix, check out their website.
Many thanks to all of the empty nester entrepreneurs who allowed me to share their stories with you today. You all inspire us with your creativity and encourage us with your passion! Are you an empty nester entrepreneur or do you know of one I need to feature on Empty Nest Blessed? If so, then please leave me a comment below or contact me at by email.
Yesterday was our 30th wedding anniversary! Many of you saw my Instagram and Facebook posts and left sweet comments. Thank you. It meant so much to me. Bob and I are headed out today to visit our daughter in Orlando. (You may remember that she’s doing the Disney College Progam internship this semester.) We’re excited to see her, and to visit Disney World during the holiday season because we’ve heard it’s incredible! After a few days there, we’ll head to Miami for Bob’s company Christmas party and to hang out and work for a few days. Be sure to watch my Instastory and Facebook for fun photos!
