If there were a national month for errands, it would be November, dontcha think? (Who am I kidding? December’s a contender too!) One of the things I’m always on the hunt for is a casual fall look that’s comfortable, but that makes me feel pulled together while I’m on the go. Maybe it’silly, but I’ve found that I feel better when I look better. (Um, that may make me shallow, just sayin’.)
I love the cozy feel of activewear, so when I found this versatile asymmetrical jacket/top at WHBM, I snagged it. It’s everything delicious that activewear should be, yet it has style to spare too. I’ve been dying to share it with you!
One of the hot trends of the year is the asymmetrical hemline. It’s a great trend because it’s one that compliments all body types. This jacket/top has a high/low hemline, so it’s higher in the front and strategically lower in the back. (Read between the lines: It covers your boo-tay.) 🙂 When zipped, it features an asymmetrical hemline in the front, which creates a flattering silhouette that minimizes your hips. I think it’s the perfect look for midlife women.
A huge reason I fell so hard for this piece was its versatility. You can wear it zipped all the way up for warmth, or partly zipped (not pictured, but so cute!) for another look. Finally, you can wear it unzipped as a jacket, which might just be my favorite. (I mean, you never know when a hot flash will suddenly strike, amirite?) Worn zipped, the cowl neckline is loose and flatters the face and neck. As a jacket, the folds fall in all the right places. The very of-the-moment thumbholes keep your hands warm without bulky gloves; it has pockets, and the interior body of the jacket is fully lined for warmth. Oh, I’ll be wearing this baby all through the winter! It’s machine washable, and comes in this autumnal brown (called “alpaca”) and also black.
I paired mine with this sweet lace-trimmed cami, which I’ve had forever. It’s a basic piece that I think every woman needs in her wardrobe. (I’ve linked two similar options for you below.) I also added my favorite Tom’s booties. They’re so neutral that they go with everything, and they have Tom’s signature cushy sole and arch support, so they’re almost as yummy on my feet as my favorite pair of tennies. The jeans I’m wearing are by NYDJ (stands for Not Your Daughter’s Jeans), which is a brand that I love for women our age. They have a high-rise waistline and special fabric to hold everything in place. (If you know what I mean…) If you order, be sure to go a size down from your usual size, as their fit is guaranteed to make you a size smaller! (Perfect for the holidays, right?) I’ll link them from Nordstrom below, but know that both Nordstrom and the NYDJ website offer free shipping and returns. (BTW, I featured a cool gift idea from NYDJ in the Empty Nest Blessed Holiday Gift Guide called “The Gift of Fit.” It’s a set that includes a gift card valid for one pair of NYDJ jeans, and a measuring tape to find the perfect fit, both in a ready-to-gift box.)
I finished my look off with a Kendra Scott silver/platinum drusy necklace and Tory Burch logo earrings that are such classics that they made my gift guide too. (I bought them for all the women in my family last year! ) Tory Burch is offering free shipping and returns for a limited time right now.
What’s your favorite casual fall look? Do you like to feel pulled together but also comfy like me when you do errands? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below, okay?
Speaking of comments, I need your help with something: This Friday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. I’m going to do my FIRST Facebook Live! I’ll be talking about my Holiday Gift Guide and how I came up with some of the gifts in each category, plus I’ll be answering your questions. You can ask me about the empty nest, my thoughts about the kids coming home for the holidays, or even something random like my fitness routine or why in the world I use so many exclamations points when I write. (Working on it! Oooops.) Please email me with questions, or leave them in the comments below. Also, if you have questions as we chat on Friday, you can type them in the comments, and I’ll try to answer them. I’m excited!
