Looking for a gift for Easter, something for your daughter who pledged a sorority, or the cutest bridal or baby shower gift imaginable? You’ve come to the right place today! The season of life that is the empty nest brings with it many momentous and joyful events that are well worth commemorating. Whether your best friend just celebrated a milestone birthday, your son got married, or you became a grandmother, you undoubtedly want a tangible way to celebrate these significant events. Today I have the privilege of introducing you to my beautiful and gifted friend, Mollie Walker. Although Mollie is not an empty nester herself quite yet, her business caters to many empty nesters who are celebrating and memorializing milestone events in their lives.
Tell us about your business and how you came up with the name for it.
My business is Brainstorm Creations, and I specialize in personalized ceramic accessories and giftware. I started Brainstorm Creations in 1993 at the ripe old age of 23 after two years working in a corporate environment. That experience helped me realize that I needed to find a job doing something in which I was genuinely interested and about which I was unquestionably passionate. I also loved the idea of starting my own business. The first two years of business were so full, creatively, that I would awaken in the night with ideas and have to jot them down on paper so I wouldn’t forget about them the following morning! The word ‘brainstorm’ is indicative of the way in which I design. My original business cards depicted a silhouette of a pony-tailed girl (me!) with a little lightning bolt in her brain!
Describe the design and creation process.
Painting time depends on the item in question, but each piece must be prepared for painting, designed, and glazed through a series of two firings in a 2000-degree kiln. The firing process for each piece is 48 hours. Each year, I design a new Easter egg, which is my signature design for that year. This year’s eggs feature a chocolate bunny (pictured at the top of this post).
What are your most popular items?
I sell hundreds of Easter eggs and Christmas ornaments every year. Baby gifts are the most consistently ordered items in my line. They include personalized crosses, baby booties, picture frames and First Christmas ornaments. Also, things like baptism gifts, tea sets, sorority pledge gifts and wedding gifts are big sellers. Each year, I design a new Easter egg, which is my signature design for that year. This year’s eggs feature a chocolate bunny (pictured at the top of this post). Brainstorm Creations products range in price from $15-$100. I am so grateful for each and every order that is placed with me, regardless of the total amount. Each order is an affirmation that I am providing a unique and quality product to my customers, and that means a lot to me.
(Suzy) You can never go wrong with a personalized gift, and I have gifted Mollie’s delightful and charming ceramics as sorority pledge gifts, wedding gifts, and Christmas gifts. I have even gifted myself with one of her precious crosses! I hope you loved hearing how she stepped out in faith, followed her passion, and topped it all off with hard work.
Mollie’s not quite an empty nester, but her passion for her business rings true to many of us who have started our own businesses, whether in the empty nest or not. Also, I just had to be a good gal pal and share her beautiful ceramics with you, of course! They will make you look like a primo gift-giver, let me tell you! Mollie has generously offered to give away two beautiful Brainstorm Creations ceramic Easter eggs to one lucky Empty Nest Blessed reader! The eggs will be this year’s annual design (pictured at the top of this post). Each egg will be personalized with the name of your choice. Simply complete entries on the widget below to enter. The giveaway ends on Tuesday, March 28 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be contacted by email and announced on my Friday, March 31 post.
