As I reflected back over 2016, I realized I found a few favorite finds last year that were just too good to keep to myself! You know how you find a product, a Netflix show, or a book that you just want to share with those you love? Well, that’s what I’m doing today. So, my sweet friends, without further ado, here are my top ten favorite finds from 2016!
1. Spanx Faux Leather Leggings
When I found out that Spanx made leggings, it made my day! When I found out they were faux-leather, it made my year! I have worn these faux leather leggings made by Spanx on repeat all year!
We’ve been doing an “empty nest refresh” this year! We’re not moving, but it was definitely time to repaint and update. We’ve replaced a bunch of tired and beat-up furniture, and this book has been my inspiration.
One of my favorite makeup finds this year was this plumping lash primer from Dior. You put it on before your mascara and it (somehow!) curls, lifts, and plumps your lashes. This product made me throw away my lash curler – which was probably good because it had a tendency to pull out lashes. I included it in a post I wrote about my favorite makeup products last year. (Click the link or the image below for more information.)
Quinoa is one of those good-for-you foods that we all know we should be eating more of, but it just seems a little intimidating. I put it in the category of all of those other oddly-named foods that I know I need to incorporate into my diet, like paella and kefir! (I just got comfortable with kale, okay?!) I wasn’t sure how to cook quinoa, but one day I asked the dude at Snappy Salads, and he told me they make theirs in a rice cooker. Guess what I bought later that day? What I love about this little rice/quinoa cooker is that it is right-sized for the empty nest, inexpensive, and a snap to use since the measurements of quinoa/water are the same as for rice, and the cooker turns off automatically when done. I usually cook a batch on Sundays, and we add it to our salads or cereal all week.
I fell hard for pretty much anything with tassels on it in 2016! I’ve linked to some of my tasseled favorite finds below. (This Rebecca Minkoff clutch/crossbody, which I bought on major sale last week, is my latest obsession!)
You add this radiance-booster to your regular foundation (or use it alone as a foundation), and just wait for the compliments to come your way! It gives you that “glow.” It is available in a variety of translucent shades, including makeup base shades, correcting shades, and radiance boosting shades. I’ve linked to the specific shade I add to my foundation. A little goes a long way, and the pump dispenser makes it easy to dispense just the right amount. I included this product in the post I wrote last year that gave you a little peek inside my makeup drawer.
The PBS show, Call the Midwife, is based on the best-selling memoirs of Jennifer Worth, who was a midwife in the East End of London in the 1950’s. My sweet sister-in-law Laura got me hooked, and I am binging on the six seasons like a mad woman! Um, I may or may not have watched an entire episode on my iPad Mini (on sale this week!) in the bathtub the other night. It is funny, colorful, and moving and I cannot recommend it highly enough! It is also girly (trust me, your hubs won’t be interested!) and wholesome. LOVE!!!
I fell in love with these sneakers this year, and bought them in every color! They are called “glove puppet” sneakers for a reason – the butter-soft leather conforms to your foot and cradles your sole in cushy comfort. Y’all, I walked for miles in these babies on our whirlwind week in New Orleans. They come in white and silver leather, and blush and black suede but are only available in limited sizes right now (translation: they’re big-time discounted!). You can click the links or the images below if you want to check for your size!
Back in the fall, I shared about how my husband and I were working out twice a week with the free videos available on FitnessBlender.com. (The other three days we do weights and cardio on our own.) This has been an intimate bonding experience for us, as there is a lot of ugly grunting and sweating that goes on during each workout! I love this positive and encouraging husband and wife fitness duo that runs their business with integrity and quality. They have over 25 years combined experience in the fitness industry. The best thing is that they work out right alongside you, and all of their workouts are FREE.
If you’ve been hanging around here long, you know that I am really into lashes! I’ve tried lots of different eyeliners over the years, and I prefer the ones you draw on like a magic marker. However, this eyeliner pencil is really special. It’s the only one I’ve found that is so soft and velvety that you can press it up into the base of your bottom lashes for a look that enhances the look of fullness but in a very natural way. It glides on like a liquid pencil, so you have to keep it really sharp. It stays put for hours (and is actually kind of challenging to remove), which is good for nap queens like me!
I’d love to know what your favorite finds were from 2016. Please leave me a comment and let me in on your new go-to app, show, product, book, etc.!
