Do you have luscious lashes? I am obsessed! I know, it is a little sad. Thankfully, my mother-in-law is also obsessed with eyelashes. This has become a real bonding point for us over the years. Most of the time we are together, the topic turns to mascara, eyelash curlers, and even, on occasion, eyelash enhancing serums. Please don’t judge us.
Apparently, we’re not the only ones obsessed. On You Tube, you can find over 67,000 lash tutorials. Sales of lash-growth products have doubled in the past three years. (Um, I might have contributed to this growth…) According to the National Products Development Group, mascara has bypassed foundation and lipstick to become the number-one most-used makeup product in the United States.
It’s no secret that after the age of 35, most women’s lashes become thinner, shorter and lighter. This is unfortunate since a full lash line is perhaps the easiest and quickest way to shave about five years off your face.
Some women have even tried the prescription-only lash grower, Latisse. Yes, this includes yours truly. (I told you I was obsessed!) It worked, but it took several months to see results. Also, it was expensive and it left my eyes irritated and red-rimmed. For me, not worth it. Some friends swear by lash extensions, but the cost and time commitment for maintenance has dissuaded me at this point. Falsies? Not so much. I’ll be honest, I think they look fake.
So, after years of exhaustive research (!), here’s what I recommend. To encourage growth, I think these two products really help. The first is Rapidlash. It’s an eyelash enhancing serum made with what they call Hexatein 1 Complex – 6 ingredients including Biotin (Vitamin B7), Panthenol (Vitamin B5) and Pumpkin Seed Extract. It really works, but you have to use it every night. Be consistent and you will see results! (I use it on my brows too.) The other products I love is Physicians Formula’s Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner. It works like an ink pen, and it contains a serum to enhance lash growth.
Now for mascara. Make the most of what you have! The experts say to give your lash curler three pumps, one at the root, one in the middle, and one at the tips. If you don’t like using a lash curler, try Diorshow Maximizer 3D, a lash primer that curls, plumps, and adds volume to lashes. Next, apply your mascara toward your nose, wiggling the wand. Apply the next coat in toward your nose, arranging your lashes in a fan. Finally, apply a little more on the tips of your outer lashes. As far as mascaras go, I’ve tried expensive ones and cheap ones. I’m super picky when it comes to mascara’s because I take a nap every day and my mascara has to hold up to that. My favorite is Lash Sensational by Maybelline. It doesn’t flake off throughout the day and yet comes off easily with my favorite cleanser. For getting every last one of those little bottom lashes, I haven’t found anything that beats The Falsies Push Up Angel mascara by Maybelline. (It has a brush that’s actually a comb!)
For some of my other fave beauty products, see this post.) Oh, and I’d love to know if there is a mascara you love. Please share!
You KNOW I’ll go out and buy it. And one for my mother-in-law too. 🙂
