The spring accessory trends for 2017 are such fun! From tassels and poms to embroidery and perforated leather, this year’s trends for accessories will bring out your girly side. What I love the very most about accessories is that they allow you to add a little something to an outfit in your existing wardrobe and it can bring it up-to-date in an instant. When it comes to fashion, there are classics (like the ballet flat, for example) that have a long life, there are seasonal staples (like polka dots in spring and plaid in fall) that come in every year, and then there are trends, which typically have about a five-year arc. Today, I’m running down some of the spring trends to watch for as you shop. (Click any of the links or images for more information.)
Last year’s big colors, blush and pale blue, are still out in force. Thanks in part to Melania Trump’s gorgeous Inauguration Day ensemble, pale blue is really big. Pantone has named greenery its color of the year so look for more and more of that to appear on the horizon. Other colors I see a lot of include coral, metallics, and of course, the “new” brown, which we’ll call cognac. My Tory Burch ‘Small York’ Saffiano Leather Buckle Tote handbag in the photo at the top of this post is an excellent example of this yummy neutral, which is wearable all year ’round.
Shapes & Details
You’ll still see scallop detailing on lots of things (This tee is only $25!), and, lace and ruffles are huge again this year. For fabrics, gingham (in all colors and sizes) continues to be big, with stripes a notable addition. Off-the-shoulder, one-shoulder, and cold-shoulder will continue to be big looks. Remember that for women of (ahem!) a certain age, a little of this shoulder-baring trend goes a long way. 🙂 A giant new trend to be sure to include in your spring updates this year is the statement sleeve. I just bought this adorable jacket to wear on Easter (also comes in red and blue).
The embroidery trend is in year one of its five-year arc, so jump on board! Now is the perfect time to grab a beautiful embroidered handbag, a pair of shoes, or a top or two. This top is one of my faves of the season, and it’s less than $20! Just go for it!
Good news if you’re a tassel crazy gal like me! The tassel is still here in force, and you’ve got a few more years of this fun trend. All the newest handbags seem to have tassels! Kate Spade has some darling ones, including the Orchard Street Hemsley , that would be perfect for summer. Also, I am in love with this crossbody and tote from Fossil. They are dupes of the designer Rebecca Minkoff crossbody that was one of my favorite finds of 2016, at a much better price!
This trend is as cute as it can be, y’all! One note of caution: it can skew “younger” than the tassel trend, so you might want to use it in moderation. For a case in point, get a load of these. (But please do not purchase!) Instead, consider poms on a cute sandal or a new beach bag. I am dying for this one. For a summery, classy take on the trend, check out this clutch.
Happy weekend, everybody!
