Today I’m sharing my holiday travel must-haves. Are you traveling over the holidays this year? Holiday travel comes with its own unique challenges – busy airports, long security lines, and unpredictable travel delays. (Sorry! Have I just stressed you out?) Just like any daunting task, having the right tools can help. I don’t know about you, but we’ve been traveling a lot in the empty nest, and I am a better traveler than I used to be. (Although that doesn’t mean I am better at packing light…a New Year’s resolution, for sure!) I have a few things that I just can’t live without when we travel:
Last year, Bob and I “bit the bullet” and finally decided to invest in high-quality luggage. Previously, I would make the trek to Target every couple of years and replace our beat-up suitcases. When we put pen to paper, we realized that we were actually spending more money in the long run and it just made sense to make the upgrade. I researched the options (You know me, I was thorough!), and we finally decided on Briggs & Riley Torq luggage. It’s made of a lightweight but durable polycarbonate and has recessed double spinner wheels. The telescoping handle is made of aircraft grade aluminum, so it is strong. Consumer Reports rated this line #1 this year in their Best Luggage Buying Guide. (This link goes to a very helpful article about what to look for in good luggage, but to actually progress and see the ratings requires paying a fee to become a member. You can trust me on this one. I subscribe to the magazine!) I also researched the best prices, and hands down found ebags.com the least expensive. We have never looked back, and we love this luggage. So much so, I listed it in my Holiday Gift Guide this year and linked to it on ebags.com in order to get the best price for my readers.
Carry On Tote:
My choice? This Tory Burch “Ella” Nylon Tote. I have last year’s model, but this year’s model is quite similar. Coming in at 17″ W x 13″ H x 5″ D, it easily fits my laptop, leaving loads of extra room for magazines, jewelry, lotions and potions, and whatever else I deem necessary. I love the interior zip and cell phone pockets and the magnetic snap closure. (Who am I fooling, I always have it stuffed way too full to close!) It’s durable too! I’ve used it on multiple trips, and it’s only showing the tiniest bit of wear. I think it’s such a great all-around tote; I listed it in my Holiday Gift Guide this year in the “Gifts for Her” section.
I’m pretty sure you all are tired of hearing me sing the praises of my Tory Burch Robinson Chain Wallet. It’s Tory’s best-seller, and I don’t know what I’d do without it. By far the most versatile bag I’ve ever owned, it comes with a beautiful (and removable) gold chain, and it can be worn as a crossbody bag, a shoulder bag, a wristlet, a clutch, or used as a wallet inside a larger handbag. (All you have to do is adjust – or remove – the chain!) It has a magnetic snap closure, two interior pockets with 16 card slots, and an exterior pocket just the right size for your phone. That’s a lot of room in a bag that only measures 7 ¾”W x 5″H x 1 ½”D.
Last year my mom gave me a travel accessory for Christmas that I just love. It’s a small, lighted, 10x magnifying compact mirror. You can raise the adjustable arm to use it as a mini vanity mirror, or lower the arm, fold it up and use it as a compact. If you don’t think 10x magnification is enough for you, it is also available in 15x magnification! To keep me organized when I am packing, I love these plastic zippered packing envelopes. If one of my lotions and potions leaks in-flight, it’s contained. Yay! While we’re on the subject of packing, my chronic over-packing problem makes this digital travel scale an absolute necessity. It would make a great stocking stuffer!
Do you freeze on planes? I do! I take this Cloudz Compact Travel Blanket with me every time I fly. It’s lightweight and easy to stash away if I don’t need it. Opened all the way up, it measures 40″ x 62, ” and it comes in eight color choices. (Mine’s pink, of course!) Finally, this insulated Tervis water bottle goes on every trip with me. I especially like it because when closed, the top completely covers the mouthpiece to protect it from contamination. I bought a similar one for Bob, with fishing lures on it.
