Empty nester entrepreneurs are people just like you. They’ve raised and launched their children and decided to spend the “second act” of their lives pursuing their passions – and profiting from them. I’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to get to know several of these inspiring entrepreneurs as they’ve graciously allowed me into their lives to profile them for Empty Nest Blessed. (You can read their stories under the “Profiles” tab of my navigation bar at the top of the website.) This year, in honor of Small Business Saturday (Nov. 26), I wanted to highlight their stories, honor their courage and perseverance, and, well, hopefully, offer them a little encouragement along the way. We empty nesters need to stick together and support one another!
Confetti & Lace
Etsy is a haven for empty nester businesses! When Gail Foglietta’s daughter got married, she discovered a gaping hole in the wedding industry that she was uniquely gifted and qualified to fill. She followed her passion and developed a successful niche business called Confetti & Lace. She makes one-of-a-kind wedding accessories, lingerie bags, and wedding memory albums. Along the way, she incorporates personal touches that are meaningful to a couple. She designed my daughter-in-law’s wedding album, utilizing lace from Sarah’s own mother’s wedding dress, as well as heirloom lace from Sarah’s own mother’s wedding dress, and scripture that was special to her and my son. To read more of Gail’s story and see some of her beautiful work, read my profile of her, and follow her on Instagram and Pinterest. Her lingerie bags would make lovely Christmas or bridal shower gifts, so think ahead!
Kisses 4 Us
Kisses 4 Us is a business born out of empty nesterdom itself! As their first Christmas as empty nesters approached, Kim Knollmeyer wanted to give her husband a gift that would bring a fun and romantic spark to their relationship. During her search for inspiration, she came across the tagline “Merry Kissmas.” It was, as they say, a “light bulb moment,” and after having great success with her gift, Kim became convinced that other couples would have just as much fun as they had by rediscovering the magic of kissing. She spent a year developing the product, and eventually launched Kisses 4 Us. Their “Kiss Kits” are gift boxes filled with cards describing various types of kisses (like the Frosty Kiss, Forehead Kiss, Sip Kiss, etc.) that you can share with your partner to keep your romance alive. They make great gifts for Anniversaries, Weddings, Birthdays, or any other occasion. I gave this gift to Bob to celebrate our anniversary last year, and we have laughed our way through the entire box multiple times. I love this gift idea so much that I included it in the Empty Nest Blessed Holiday Gift Guide under the “Gifts for Him” section. You can learn more about Kim by reading her profile on Empty Nest Blessed, visiting the Kisses 4 Us website, or following Kisses 4 Us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or Pinterest. You can order Kisses 4 Us on Amazon, or straight from the Kisses 4 Us website.
MidTerm Fix is a company that offers fun and creative care packages that you can send your kids. Their customized care packages are like a big hug from Mom! The company was founded by Rebecca Hastings, as a way to honor her daughter, Kelsey, who passed away from Ewing Sarcoma, and every year she donates a portion of her proceeds to cancer centers specializing in childhood cancer research. I love this ingenious idea! Last year, I sent their Birthday Bash Care Package to my son, and he was blown away to receive such a fun and unique gift. They offer customized care packages for various holidays and also general packages that need no special occasion at all. Pictured above is the Hugs & Kisses Care Package. So cute, right? My favorite thing about it is that it comes with MidTerm Fix’s signature cookies, which are personalized with the recipient’s name. (You might want to consider sending one of their packages to your college student as an encouragement during finals week this year. I’m not saying it will result in better grades, but…) To learn more about MidTerm Fix, read the profile I did on Rebecca, as well as check out their website and Facebook page. (You can also follow them on Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.)
Many thanks to all of the wonderful empty nester entrepreneurs who allowed me to share their stories with you today. You all inspire us with your creativity and encourage us with your passion! Did you know that blogs like mine are small businesses? Visiting EmptyNestBlessed.com and shopping the links I share actually supports my business! Depending on the product link I share with you, I may receive a commission if you click through the link I provide and buy something. Also, the more pages you visit on my blog (called “page views” in blogger speak), as well as visitors (new and returning) that Empty Nest Blessed receives, the more opportunities I have for advertising and collaborations. I spend a lot of time thinking (and praying!) about how to bless and encourage you all, whether it’s with posts about how to strengthen your marriage, build up your kids, find just the right gift, or find that outfit or new mascara that will make you look great. Also, I only share links for products or resources that I love or use myself! THANK YOU for supporting Empty Nest Blessed and sharing it with your friends. (Sharing it with others is actually one of the best things you can do to help my business, so thank you especially for that!) I know I speak for all the empty nester small businesses I profiled here when I tell you how grateful we are for your support.
